Tough day, river up 1 5m overnight and difficult to find slack water to hold bottom. Oddly had 4lb chub second cast which was probably a bit of a fluke as feeder was bouncing around all over the place. Tried up and down the stretch for rest of the day with only one bite and a 7.2lb barbel at 4pm was very welcome.

Whitehouse was the first day of our annual Wye pilgrimage 2024. Whitehouse parking and access difficult as ground exceedingly wet , meaning car parking was on higher ground by farm buildings. Very long walks to furthest points of fishery, so we went lightweight as possible.

On the day of fishing river level had gone up by over 1m to around 2.2m at Ross on Wye; in all we fished around 10 swims and could have fished another 4 but all were tricky to access , slippery and not chair friendly.

Fishing was good but hard work with 3 modest barbel and 2 good chub, for 3 anglers fishing from 8.30am until 5.45pm all on luncheon meat. River pushing through very hard and we struggled to find slack water.

We might come back to this fishery , hopefully when ground drier and we don't have to wade through plenty of farmyard manure to get back to our cars.

River pretty high. Just one chub to save the day.
