Fantastic day with 11 WBT to the net, from 6 to 12 inches. Good fly hatches from midday onwards once the conditions warmed up a little. Most fish taken in the riffles on dries, but 3 fish taken on the flats using stealth tactics. Fished under the guidance of Gareth Lewis - an excellent local guide who knows these waters very well. I learned a huge amount during the session. Highly recommended.

Six trout up to 9", all taken on a #14 Partidge & Orange on a dropper, all returned of course. They were not interested in the nymph on the point. The very strong downsteam wind today almost drove me to distraction & so, upstream dry was a nightmare & I gave up on that. As the wind was still very strong early evening & little was coming off the water, I called it a day around 6.30PM

Dear W&U,
Fishing at Glanusk on Thursday was difficult with very windy/cold conditions and heavy showers coupled with the river as low as I have ever fished it. That said, 9 brown trout were caught ranging from 9" to 17/18" on both nymph and dry. As always, no matter what the weather, the W&U Foundation Fishing will bring me back to Wales time and time again.
Many thanks to the staff for your time, advice and politeness.
Kind regards
S

Caught 4 trout to 7". Very difficult day with strong winds and lots of rain as low pressure came through. No steady rises at all, and very small hatch if any. Dry fly was impossible. Most success came from size 14 gold head nymph on point with a same size brown pennel type wet fly fished across and down to the odd rise and searching the water systematically.

Landed a lovely conditioned hen fish 11.15am just over 32 inches, approx 13lbs, caught on silver and black spooned salmon red flying c, caught off the wood crib with water level just below 0" (summer level) on the Lydbrook gauge. Quite windy, with strongish upstream wind above the island, but calm through the wood. Algae getting bad around midday.
Only 4 canoes by 11.30.

A disappointing afternoon and evening. Arrived around noon to find very little fly activity and precious little showing in the way of fish. A fitful breeze that switched from upstream to downstream in an instant and nearly blew my hat off. Tried dry and nymph. Hooked and lost one small brownie early-on with a brown Klinkhammer. Otherwise nothing. Spent a good three quarters of an hour covering rising fish at the top of the beat at around 8:30, They were mainly small fish, but there was was one sizeable one that kept wagging his tail at me. Tried all shapes and sizes, but whatever they were taking, it wasn't what I was offering. Maybe I should have been there in the morning!

Quite a good day despite a difficult and cold breeze. Good hatches throughout the day and a decent spinner fall in the evening. 3 WBT to 10 inches on GRHE. 4 out-of-season Grayling to 12 inches, taking LT Caddis klink and GRHE. Many many missed takes, particluarly to parachute adams. All fish returned safely.
I tried to vary my tactics and locations in a bid to avoid catching Grayling, but there are so may of them on this beat it was impossible to avoid them. This must be a great beat for the Grayling season.
