Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
Fenni fach was in full glory today even though it was a few inches higher than perfect. Thought I would nip out for an afternoon between floods. 19 fish in all with a couple more lost. Plenty of fly life about but only saw two fish feeding on the suface both of which duly took the proffered nymph... I know but I had the nymph set up ready and they rose right if front of me.

Beat:Dinas
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
No fish caught. Water was rain affected and was rising, with lots of silty run-off, plus debris coming through. Occasional fish rising up to around 2pm. Several takes and misses while fishing NZ style, but all small fish. Good hatches despite the conditions.

Beat:R20 Garren Brook
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
First time on this beat. 3 Trout largest about 12oz other two possibly 4oz each all on Light Hendrickson. Hard work after previous nights rain coloured the water. Trout only seen to be rising in the shallow fast water downstream of the weir. Tried above the weir but absolutely nothing moving at all, the fish could probably not see the fly through the murk in the much deeper water.
A40 main road not too intrusive. Quite a big mayfly hatch off and on through the afternoon. Definitely a chest wader beat above the weir and some of the pools I dare not wade through.

Beat:Chainbridge
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:2
No fish caught. River very low, very little rising even with large amounts of insect life on the surface. Access at lower end of beat below bridge inaccessable, extremly steep bank side and too overgrown to be able to fish. Tried to gain access to lower Trout pools through stream running into river, but not possible either. Spoke with Beat master, very helpful and friendly chap. Would visit again when water level back up.

Area:Reservoirs
Beat:Usk Reservoir
Fishing:Salmon
No. of Anglers:1
Lively weather and lively fishing. 6 rainbow trout ranging from 1.2 lb to 1.8 lb all caught on mepps aglia 3 copper and silver spinners. In between this lot was a small brownie about 8 inches suitably returned, and another two rainbows which shipped the lure.
This water seems best when there is broken cloud or overcast skies. Wind was howling and the periodic showers torrential.

Area:Upper Wye
Beat:Abernant
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:2
Fished pm and early evening. Inclement weather including rain and high wind meant hatches lasted minutes. One fish each caught, one small brown and one brown of approx 12 inches, to nymph and klink respectively. River had autumnal debris, presumably due to slight rise and debris blown on to water. The odd fish was rising, but klink brought fish up.
