A delightful day on one of the prettiest beats available via WUF. Water was still a bit low and clear but good fish were taken, mainly Grayling but also a cracking Wild Brownie.

This was a return visit after being washed off a week ago. There was still a little bit of colour in the water, but the river was in lovely condition. Fishing different halves of the beat, we were both treated to the company of otters during the morning. Add in several kingfishers and dippers and the odd deer crossing the river, and you've more than enough to make for a really memorable day quite apart from the fishing! This is a really delightful stretch of water. But there were fish too: between us we had nine trout, the best of which was just over a pound, and four grayling which included the undoubted catch of the day - a lovely fish of a pound and three quarters. We also had a little dace from the bridge pool. A terrific day all in all, only marred by the loss of a landing net. So if anyone finds one...

A pleasant days fishing, although I failed to connect with any fish, I must be getting old! Managed to provoke a few takes on a CDC emerger pattern, access difficult as usual but not impossible and its always good to work for your fishing! I was also somewhat surprised and disappointed to have the company of a pair of cormorants on the beat!

Area:Lower Wye
Beat:Middle Hill Court
Fishing:Coarse
No. of Anglers:2
Rod 1 caught 5 barbel to 7lbs. Rod 2 caught 3 chub to 4lbs and 5 barbel 9lbs 14 oz (2ozs short!). All fish taken using halibut and hemp mix in swim feeders (many of them) with 8mm halibut pellet on 10 of the 30 or 40 hook links used between the two rods over the 12 hour session. Fortunately weather and canoe traffic both favourable. 2 of the barbel were hooked and landed with an audience of canoeists so that blows one of my well used excuses out of the water. Salmon very active throughout the day. Sadly have to support comments made in earlier reports about the amount of discarded equipment, mono etc on the bank and empty sweet corn can in the water in the margin (?) but that could have come downstream from non-WUF beats.
Many thanks to the WUF for making such enjoyable fishing possible.

2 x trout 7-10 inches, 1 x grayling 6 inches, dry fly. Decidely patchy, with very few rising fish - slightly disappointing as this beat fished very well last September.

2 x WBT caught, approx 8 inches and safely returned. #20 klinkhamer brought the fish up. Occasional fish rising throughout the afternoon. Missed some larger fish which ws very frustrating, but proves that the sport is still good at this time of year.

A lovely day on this beat. Couldn't stay till evening unfortunately. Wading and walking challenging, water lovely, but few signs of fish. Two tiny trout on emergers.
