River clearing and dropping made fishing a little difficult but work done by bailiff on the swims was excellent

Promising conditions at 7.15am but the river rose 3 or 4” through the day and started to colour up more as well. Still, it was very fishable and it was slightly disappointing not to see any salmon today.

Heavy persistent rains and strong south westerly meant ideal conditions for a few hours this morning. The Trout were feeding hard just out of casting range at one point and good sized fish as well. I hooked a Brown trout that took my dry fly and tore line of the spool powerfully a very good fish unfortunately it won the battle! I took a fish shortly afterwards again on the dry and this was a nice solid 12 inch dark brown trout and gave a good scrap in the heavy waves. Then just before I had to leave I cast to a rising fish and the fly was taken straight away by a good sized brown that gave another good scrap and this one was just over 14 inches long.

Great few hours fished from 8.30 am to 11.30 am.

Fished the rubbish tip swim and one next to it for a few hours. Dad had a chub second cast. I lost two barbel in the same snag before landing a chub. I moved to a swim near the top end of the stretch that I had prebaited and had a barbel. Dad stayed put in rubbish tip swim and had three barbel in a productive hour or so. I returned to the swim next to him around 4.30 and had a couple more chub. Three barbel around 7lb mark, one around 5lb. Two clonking chub of 5lb+. All fish caught on fishy groundbait with pellet. We didn’t look at the lower stretch of the beat. Around 4-5 fishable swims in upper section but was a bit slippery at times. Great vehicle access to the upper section of this beat. I’d fish here again and would certainly have a look at what’s left of the fork next time. Thanks WUF. A decent day out. Oh, and I saw an otter.

New beat for us. After walking the length, we all decided to fish in the wood. The river had run off with no colour in the water which hindered our chances. We still managed a few fish on a nice beat.
