A busy day on the river, 29 Grayling and 5 WBT. I fished the length of the beat but found the lower half more productive and better access for fishing, nice runs and pools and lots inbetween on this section. First time in a long while that Ive had a double, this good sized trout in the picture caught on my lead nymph (Duracell) and a smaller trout on the dropper (PTN). KM

First time using the Fishing Passport and fishing on the Usk and loved every minute. 4 wild brownies (8ins) all on nymph all returned. Very few rises, so unfortunately no dry fly action. River clear, clean and with a good mix of pools and riffles. Warm day with a little breeze. Stayed in Llanerch Vineyard outside Cardiff so an hours drive but wonderful views of the Becons. Easy to use the Passport booking system, great directions and will book again.

One barbel of approx 8lbs. saved our blushes at last knockings. Was so hot that we really should have arrived at the river 6-7pm & fished when the sun was off the water, but travel arrangements did not allow this. Lovely day on the riverbank nevertheless. Almost constant slow hatch of 'uprights' to feed the sand martens & the trout. Two lazy salmon moving now & then. Late on there was a bigger hatch of yellow may's ( Sallies); Such pretty little insects ... glad to say some of these escaped the avian onslaught. I should imagine the river really comes alive at night in these conditions.
Thanks to all again.

Lovely beat. We only fished for a few hours in the afternoon. Teaching my wife and daughter how to cast! Saw several rises and I think we would have had a successful day if we had focused on fishing (catching!).
We will definitely return.

A bright sunny day. Loads of very gentle rises all day, no idea what to. Despite covering loads of rises very difficult to get a take. Tried various dries as well as spiders but never cracked the code. Only managed one on the dry fly before I resorted to fishing a nymph. Best fish of the day came late on to a big bushy emerger fishing the duo. A lovely 14” fish that took the emerger not the nymph.

Bright and warm. Plenty of boats until around 3 o’clock and swimmers and dogs at the upstream end of the beat.
Fished the bottom two thirds starting at the wharf. No bites there or at the next croy. Bites came at the lower limit but no barbel in evidence.

Had this entire beat to myself today so tried to fish as much as possible. River still holding a bit of extra water and a nice colour . Very hot today ! Which I thought my hinder my chances ,but not at all . Trotting out the question so Feeder / pellet was the method . Fish from the first cast , lots of action ! Lots of lost fish to . Biggest chub 5lb , all barbel around 7/8lb and 5 eels one which was huge ! All caught in the blistering heat ! Great day .
