River clear and low. A few fish showing. Lots of hatching flies with most trout falling to sub-surface spiders & a couple on dry fly (average size 1lb). Seemingly very few grayling compared to previous years/ trips.

Just the one grayling earlier in the day. Seemed to see a rising fish wherever I went so was using dry flies mostly. Several bumps/bites after the initial grayling but no more catches - threw a nymph on for a time but got nothing on that.
Lovely day though with good weather and seeing plenty of fish. Just frustrating I couldn’t net a few more

A tough day on a very overgrown beat. I failed to estimate that the undergrowth but be at its highest and hence access to the water proved tricky.
Where I could get in I would have one cast then catch a tree or the bank. I lost a decent OOS grayling that took a dry and had a couple of refusals. Fly life was great but not many rising fish in evidence. I suspect if Id stayed until the sun was off the water this may have been different.
A first for me was to see a mole swimming across the river, moles can swim, who knew??
