Quite cold and blustery today after yesterday's rain. Saw 1 mayfly and very little else, and not a single rise while I was on the river. Lovely beat though.

Booked the beat on Tuesday 26th May and as the weather was looking hot and sunny decided to fish the afternoon into the evening. After travelling for over an hour I was extremely disappointed when I arrived at 1:40 pm to find a car parked in the parking space displaying a Wild Stream Season Permit. After contacting the Foundation to report the issue, the lady at the cottage very kindly allowed me to park my car next to hers. Fished a dry Mayfly pattern with a few Mayfly starting to hatch around 3:30 pm. Landed 3 plump trout all around 10 inches, hooked and lost several others and rose a few more. Saw a few Spent Mayfly later on but no real activity from the fish. What effect someone else fishing the beat before me had on my day I will never know.

Fishing Passport Note : The permit holder was contacted and reminded to check available beats before fishing.

Well mooched off to the lovely Titley best of the Arrow this morning , along with Mrs A . Who wanted a chill out and a break from painting and garden projects, so was nice to park up just after seven , River looked an absolute picture and already masses of insect life on the go , including olives , gnats and damsel flies !!! With plenty of others at the party as well , and mayfly showing from tenish . .

The Trout here have seen their fair share of waders and floating lines over the last couple of weeks , and always amazes me , with the wild streams , why don't some anglers fish a beat that hasnt been touched for a while , like The Dore , or Monnow or Escley !!! Some might be hard work, but great sport , Still there you go!!! So it hadn't been touched for a few days , and as one of my local beats was nice to be back , first time this year . . . . . Eeeekkkkkk !!!

No rises initially, so on with a tiny , size twenty gold head PTN , and three fish in heads of pools slowly mooching upstream , ranging from.six to ten inches , the last two on a small Parachute Adam's, cracking splashy rises too !!!! Happy days . . . . The Mrs impressed with my performance ha ha !!! An impromptu picnic on the side of the Arrow , then a slow bimble back down to the truck , a steady four hours , didn't get to the weir but just a nice relax, and five Titley beauties to the net , back here soon !! A lovely morning , time to get home out of the heat and maybe a cheeky power snooze !!! Sorted !!!!

An enjoyable day in the idyllic Arrow valley. Feeding fish hard to find and prospecting with nymph and dries did not produce. Maybe half a dozen places on the whole beat where I saw fish rising, mostly to very spasmodic mayfly in slow glides where a stealthy approach was difficult in the bright conditions and low water. There were swarms of mayfly dancing in the wooded area above the weir at the upstream end of the beat, no doubt on account of the silty section of water there and a few fish were rising below the weir to the ones washed over it. Stayed to last light in the hope of more evening activity, which wasn't significant and three missed takes to a mayfly was day's score. Otter spraint in a couple of places and a deceased crayfish found on the river bed.

A lovely day on the Arrow at Titley, It was nice to be out at last. Unfortunately, probably to nice a day, I saw 3 fish all day. Plenty of insect life, even a mayfly hatch, but no takers. Had to leave earlier than expected, so I would guess the fish would have started to rise during the evening, opportunity missed I think

Short version: I was blown off the river. The wind was just too strong. Longer version: Arrived at 10.30 and there were already hatches trickling off (olives and a few mayfly). But not a single rise all day. I tried all - nymphs, emergers, dries - but no luck all day. And frankly, casting in that wind was nearly impossible. But its a beautiful beat. Another time...

Very sunny and bright day. Plenty of Mayflies hatching but only saw 4 fish rising all day. Great to be out on the water all the same.
