A warm day when I parked up by the white cottage Bridge pull in at ten ....already 17 degrees by then .... Brian P. had done well yesterday, with tenkara, so thought why not give the little Duhonw a bash just with tiny dries, old school style, see how she fairs !!!
Actually the walk down right to the bottom of the beat is superb, its been ages since I've been right down there ... Last time I was here the owners of the cottage had reported ,or tried to report a milky substance in the river !!!
Anyway ...the pool heads were fun, and casting literally on a six pence ro get a response .... fantastic fun with the six foot one weight ..... like grease lightening here !!! Beautiful little fish , but boy you gotta work for them, both on the wading front and presenting your dry ....A Wickhams and a Para Greenwells did the biz for me during a five hour slow wade .... i got out by the culvert bridge and a slow bimble back down the fields from there ....So really only half the beat done I think !!!
Eleven fish to my net, some really chunky strong eleven inch fish too, but most between five snd seven inches ...Just total fun on a tiny dry !!! A few more self released brownies made the session very entertaining and I must say lots of insect life down in the gorge, including mayfly!! Unusual on such a Rocky fast flowing stream ... mind you, higher up there's some silty areas I guess .....
The fish are stunning here, similar to the Clettwr specimens..... I must admit a big thanks to Brian P . For doing some very handy cutting back of over hanging foliage etc etc etc ...... I've started taking just my secateurs in its pouch to the Edw, and done some light clipping on the Hergest beat .... more needed ... I suggest to folks to do a little bit each time they go, doesn't hurt, and aids others in the future ..... some cracking pools opened up properly thanks to Brian ......
A lovely five hours on this classic mountain babbling brook......Fish are fast as a bullet here, but soooooooooo much fun !!! Another beat tommoz, then I'm guiding some chappies out in the Elan Valley wednesday and Thursday... hope its a bit more overcast by then!!! We shall see ..... onwards and upwards!!!

Bright sunny clear day. There were trout rising consistently first thing in the morning and managed 1 on a dry. Soon after the fishing slowed right down as the morning went on with only the odd rise.I Fished a dry dropper and caught 2 more and losing one small trout. All trout were a very reasonable size. There was one other person fishing, when I got home I checked online and said it was booked by 1 rod which was me, and he was not parked in the car park which was strange.
So I’m not sure whether he was poaching or lost from another beat.

A hot (22C) sunny day. Water very clear and low enough to see most of the 'skeleton' of the river. I fished from 1000hrs to 1800hrs but only had 2 fish to show for my effort (a small trout and a small grayling) but I missed many more (including what appeared to be a couple of sizeable trout). I was surprised that there wasn't a noticeable and distinct hatch of anything but there was a drip drip of caddis and mayfly emergers throughout the day. It was good to see a sandpiper flying upstream.
