Overcast day, not cold for January, river full and fast. Wanted to get onto far bank but couldn't wade across due to deep water. Fished below the weir and up into the field through the gate. Owner very friendly; turned off electric fence.
Enjoyable couple of hours. No fish caught.

Well after a mahooooooosive stretch of not getting out on the rivers due to several aweful spells of flooding was nice to eventually get out on the Arrow , did really want to give Noke a bash , but saw it was booked for today, shall give that a bash early on thursday me thinks !! A nice change from Winter Grey Squirrel bashing , and great to get out on the river at last !!!!!!!!!

Opted for Arrow Mill beat instead , got there about nine, still heigh and running a bit murky , due to yesterdays three hours of rain I guess, although still fishable with tungsten nymphs I thought , and my hunch was right !!!

First feisty fish on in deep area just up from the bridge , only an eight inch trout but boy he had some gusto , with the mild weather I think he thought it was May !!!!! Forgotten what they looked like , lovely colours quickly slipped back in . . . .

Second fish another brownie, again eight or nine inches , slower deeper water on point olive tungsten nymph, ditto , quickly slipped back in . .

Moving up some gravel bars been created and serious bank erosion , had a chat with owner , they had it flooding into farm buildings etc etc !!!! Not good and surrounding ground have to be carefull where you place your feet !!! Due to collapsing sink holes etc etc !!
Anyway back to the action , did eventually hit into some ladies , and quite nice size for here too , two nice ones on the pink shrimp pattern , both some size, about ten inches , and a smaller one , only about seven inches .Up passed the weir , did have a lovely chubb on but didn't quite make the net , great run around on the eight foot four weight though !! A really fun three hours , time for home and a bimble down the valley with the 20 bore , see if there is any
squirrels out on parade, fun morning back soon , Noke or Llandewi next week , happy days !!!

I got to Arrow Mill for around 1pm. As I parked up, the farmer came over to introduce himself, and kindly turned off the electric fence for me, as there were no cattle in the fields. The water level was too high for my liking, I had a few casts just above the weir, but to no avail. I gave up with the fishing after an hour or so. But stayed to have a wonder around this beautiful place. I'll be back to give this beat another try when the levels drop a few feet.

My son and I had an excellent day on this idyllic stretch of the Arrow. There were lots of mayflies and sedge hatching throughout the day. The river was in great condition and relatively clear. We spooked and missed a few good fish - this was my 8 year old son's first try on a stream, but he was thrilled to bits after catching a very good trout on a dry mayfly pattern. The other two fish were caught on PTNs fished NZ style. All our fish were carefully returned.
We were given a very warm welcome on arrival by the farmer, who looked after us throughout our visit and couldn't have been more helpful. I can't praise Arrow Mill enough!

A very nice looking beat for its small size, lots of fishy looking runs. A little less sun and a little less colour would've helped the cause but no signs of fish apart from a spooked trout in the mill stream. Sadly an electric fence placed upstream from the mill placed 1 yard from the waters edge makes most of the upstream fishing awkward or impossible.

The Arrow was looking clear and running at a fair old pace when I turned up at about half nine , had a initial mooch just above the weir , one small grayling seen , boding well for the quick session this morning . . . . . Overcast to begin with , ten degrees and a few small insects already on the move !!!!

Slipped into the river down by the bridge working my way slowly upstream , clear water and up a bit , which was surprising as no significant rain locally for a while . . . Didn't get a touch on small nymphs till the weir pool , then had one small feisty six inch brownie , quickly slipped back in .

Did give a kick sample into my net , and a surprising amount in the fine mesh at the bottom of my net , promising to see , and also nice to see four sightings of kingfishers up and down the Arrow , busy busy !!!! Bumble bees , rooks in the trees above , the race is on !!!!!!

Did have a brief nose up on the section above the weir , almost like two rivers here , seems like it would almost be better without that weir , as far as the fish goes , but I guess it's been there since the year dot so we have to find tactics around it !!!!! Has some nice Chubb in there in the warm summer months !

Shall head here again when the mayfly are having a disco !!!! A fun two hours on this stretch , Two days to go , yippeeeeee , back soon !

Well for a change , gave the Arrow Mill beat a crack this morning , only a quick session to be honest , arriving there at nine, was perhaps a bit early , still a chill in the air , so opted for a tiny flashback tungsten PTN , starting down by the bridge . . . . . . . .
Flow pretty impressive over the weir , and it seems the Arrow is holding water still from the other weeks two days downpours . . . Slightly cloudy but otherwise looking great !!!!
Nothing on the nymph , till I got to the deep pool about forty yards short of the weir pool , one good take on the PTN , and a feisty little eight inch grayling to hand , quickly admired then released . . .
Slowly mooched up to the weir pool and had two more grayling , both about six inches , but perfect little fish , and both slipped back in . The section above the weir didn't seem very " alive " , and worked my way after limbo dancing under the electric fence , shame it wasn't positioned about three yards further out !!!!! So that you could at least get down into the river with out some dodgy dancing !!!!
One nice Chubb seen further up but otherwise not much going on fishy wise !!!! Did try a black klinkhammer working likely spots , but no takers today . . . Still a fun few hours , shall get on the Llynfi next week , have a bash at the feisty Welsh Grayling !!!!!! Happy days !!!!!!!

My first time for wild stream fishing, arrived at 10:30am, weather conditions overcast and breezy but warm. ( remnants of hurricane Helene due anytime). Caught a 3” fish on a dry from the weir on my fourth cast but then nothing in the 2hours I was there. Enjoyable if not testing couple of hours, but drove back happy to have the trip under my belt. Looking forward to trying more wild stream venues.
