A pleasant afternoon foray up part of the bottom section of this lengthy beat. Water low and clear despite recent storms and with a faint peaty tinge. Little fly life evident above or below the surface other than in one silty pool, but there must be a good food source for the myriads of fry and minnows and a couple of salmon parr that did put in an appearance. The trout though seemed to be away on holiday.

Unable to fish due to the Trout Inn car park being closed, I guess due to the pandemic. The only other places to park were in front of people’s houses and Beulah being a small place it didn’t seem appropriate. Moved to Upper Irfon but no joy there and left to to Aberbwtran.

Well with shifts done and dusted , was champing at the bit to get going on a wild stream , knowing it's a tad early but with the mild wet winter we've had there may be an eager brownie wanting a quick snack !!!

Opted for the Cammarch , fished here many moons ago ,but with the Edw , Lugg and Arrow so handy normally plumb for one of those beats to be honest !

Half nine when I parked up at The Trout Inn cafe park mooched to the bridge start and opted for a small tungsten nymph, see if any takers . . . River in lovely condition , running clear and at a lovely height , looking at the banks it has been obviously very very heigh , but drops fast I should imagine . . .

Worked my way up , very pleasant too , not really expecting much , and too be honest was nice just having a recce on this Upper beat , will be superb here in five or six weeks .

Worked my way up more or less level with the little church and bimbled back down to the bridge , couldn't resist a few casts in that lovely pool under the bridge , and had a small , and I mean small gorgeous little brownie on ha ha . . . Spot on !!! He'd hammered the little PTN tungsten nymph happy days , had a look at the Edw @ Aberedw on the way back , that's running at a nice height too , a really fun three hours here,oh and not too much of the dreaded rain either , just started heavy when I was walking back to truck , back here soon , a lovely beat !!!!

A pleasant few hours on the "Upper" stretch. Lovely mixed water with some deep holes. All the fish came to a tungsten nymph, a few stonefly started to show early afternoon but no signs of fish rising.

Fished upper section from the Trout Inn. Access over fence into field (?). There is a very deep hole just at the entry point to the beat. Fish all came from one riffle on small gold head pheasant tail nymph under a pale bodied klink. One mayfly spotted, a few small upwings. Very clear water. A few trees down further up the beat, but generally easy wading and a lovely beat.

Fished lower section of Cammarch. Section is as described, lots of smooth water and some riffles. A number of deep scours to be aware of. Water very clear, few flies coming off and no rises. No fish landed but a few came up to a pale bodied Klink.

Went to the top of the beat to start. Fished downstream for a few hundred yards. Had one pull but it did,nt stick. At midday went the other end of the beat but no joy. No hatch and no fish in evidence. Progress upstream very difficult due to overgrown banks

The final outing of the long weekend took us to the River Cammarch beat. Having stayed at the Trout Inn in Beulah it provided a very handy couple of hours fishing before the long trek home. At this point I have to say that Dave and Heather looked after us superbly at the Trout Inn with some excellent food and ale, a warm welcome and comfortable rooms.

Starting at the main bridge in Beulah and working upstream, the Cammarch here is an interesting stream with a variety of runs and pools to give the dry fly angler a great sense of optimism. Access to the water is good here, and a small wbt was taken on a grey duster para on one of the slower runs.

Moving up to where the small stream joins, there is a beautiful run which saw 2 small fish snap at the fly but the reactions of the angler too slow to connect. A return to the run on the was back produced another take, but the reactions still way too slow to bother the fish.

If you are looking for a couple of hours of stream fishing without mountaineering or difficult wading then this section of the Cammarch is highly recommended, as is having a meal and a pint in the adjacent Trout Inn.
