First time at Knill. Somewhat cool and windy after rain the previous day and a prolonged hot spell. Plenty of water in the stream and it was surprisingly clear. Reasonable amount of insect life in the sunny periods, including some mayfly. My mate needs some practice - he hooked 13 but lost 5. He doesn't need as much as me however. Those with a maths degree will have already worked out that, with a total catch of 8, I blanked!

Another cracker of a beat, parked at the bridge just after six , river looked good, a tad low but to be expected I guess at the moment , looked like it was going to be another scorcher sun already trying to say hello !!!! Reading ten in my truck wen I got out to gear up . . . . .
Initially tackled up the usual six foot two weight rod , and single tungsten size twenty PTN , and success after an hour!!! Wondered were the fish were !!!
Was surprised when a chap at about I guess half nine Was on the side of the bank , when I was changing flies and was querying about my wild streams permit , and where was it displayed on the dash , I mentioned it's in the old tax disc holder , and glad I eventually met B.P from Pembridge , had a good chat about the streams etc etc and was advised to try on the straight section ,B.P was trying slightly further up . .

The fish did come on the feed , even with the bright sun ,the deep shady pools harboured some lovely brownies, nothing huge but feisty on the light rod ,having six in total, two good misses on the dry today ,and two missed to the net on the barbless hooks . . .

Overall a fun five hours , and six Hindwell residents to the net , ranging from six to ten inches , so a nice wind down and also nice to bump into a wild streams enthusiast that lives local, happy days ,back here soon . . . .

I thought I would arrive early to avoid the sun but you've got to be very early to beat JA!
After a nice chat we decided it would be okay to park at the other spot and fish upstream from there.
Tried klink and dink to start and no interest in the nymph but missed a couple of rises so I tied on a #16 para Adams.
4 Trout to hand between 6 and 8 inches and the same amount missed.
Looks like the Weir at the top end got washed out in the winter floods.

Gem of a river. Tough but very rewarding.

Bright sunny day, low water, very overgrown: it's September! Fished for a couple of hours, late afternoon, no hatching flies.
The meadows were full of daddy long legs, and had several splashy rises to dry patterns, but couldn't connect. One 10 inch fish to a grey duster lost at the net: joys of barbless! Had a look at other recent reviews: agree there are rarely rising fish here, but there are plenty in the river: in the 'dredged' middle section they throw up muddy trails as they are spooked and head off upstream! Two nice kingfishers.

The river was low but I had a lovely few hours. Some clearing has been done and except for an occasional wall of Himalayan
balsam the access was good. However I did not see one rise and a neighbouring farmer admitted that there were not many fish in the river - I don't know, but it is a very nice place to visit.

Weather atrocious and river somewhat coloured so no dry fly action. Caught and released all fish on size 16 hare and copper beadhead fished with small wool indicator. Very nice beat, just wish the conditions had been better.

had a couple of hours today, midday. all trout taking nymph in the faster water. trout switched on at 1 pm for an hour then it totally died. a huge amount of fly on the water , midge, olives, stonefly, sedge and also a few true mayfly but only one rise spotted. third time fishing here and am bewildered at the lack of rising fish. still a lovely stream to fish with a good flow .

A couple of nibbles, brook levels good, wish I had brought waders. Lots of electric fences overland (with access points) Lots of inquisitive cows near Knill farm. I fished from noon to 16.30. Fishing apart a great part of the world and a relaxing afternoon.
