Lovely overgrown wild beat with plenty of small trout around, some of which were rising to very small mayfly duns. It was an ambitious place to try to teach a 9 year old to fly fish but still made for a great adventure. Only a handful of the pools in the middle of the beat are deep enough to hold larger fish and accessible enough to easily fish without spooking the fish, especially as the water was so low.

Sunny bright day, river running well but very clear. Did not see any rises so persevered with nymphs. Landed 3 good trout at about 12” each, all on gold bead hare ear and from the faster water at the head of deeper pools. Mid afternoon everything stopped, did not stay till late evening to see if a rise started. Interesting I saw no parr or smaller trout, though the ones I landed were in excellent condition.

Saw more fish here than in the other Honddu beats I have fished this week, but none of the fabled pounders.

A lovely intimate beat best fished with a sub 7' rod, fished a duo set up with all fish taking the nymph and the biggest going 13".

Evening session. One to ptn and lost another. No rise and plunging temperature made life tricky....

I've fished this wild stream on numerous occasions but I am still slightly in shock because of the size of the fish we caught. Five of the seven were whoppers. I'm only estimating but they must have been in the 14" range, and nice and fat. I have caught the odd big fish here before, but not so many in such a short space of time.

Good conditions, overcast, clear water, good strength of flow. Fished from noon until 4pm, sharing one rod between the two of us. All on Hare's nymph below a Klinkhammer.

A perfect wild stream day.

Enjoyable hour or so at the upper end of the beat. Limited accessibility meant we stayed within about 300 yds of the Ford. Good conditions but no luck!

A few hours spent this evening on the Honddu. The water was up a bit, in some runs it was really pushing through. Great conditions for nymphing with a French leader. Lots of action with some surprisingly big fish about. Best 1lb 12oz, 2 x 1lb 1/4, 1 x 1lb 6oz (weighed in net) and numerous fish of between 9 and 12 inches.

First time at this beat. Easy access, easy wading. Love the refreshing gin clear water in summer. The beat had some opened space and tight in some corners. Fish-able with 8'6" rod for careful casters or 6'-7' for those like me.

Low and clear water made the fish easily spooked. Many were in the unexpected shallow, which darted away even before I attempted to approach them. Occasional rises but never repeated. Tried duo, heavy nymph in riffle with not much success. Eventually, saved from the blank by 3 WTB on a single dry, targeting the shallow ahead of riffle with snail-pace wading and keeping low.
