Day 2 of 4 day trip and back to a favourite beat. Nice sized WBT came up to my dry but a very quiet day on the river. Nothing rising. Too cold. I got to the Bridge Pub at the top but only by marching for the last hour. I walked past some great looking pools so next time I will start half way up. Glorious pint of Butty Bach in the pub!

A wonderful day out in the most idyllic setting. Perfect weather 12-17 degrees C. No wind, some light cloud but mainly sunny. Water clear and quite low.
I caught 4 lovely brown trout, 3 around half a pound but one about 3/4 pounds. All returned. Fished dry fly using a No 16 pheasant tail. I was a bit surprised to catch anything as very little in the way of rising trout.

First time on this beat and I thought I was running the Grand National as I cleared more fences than the horses will on Saturday.I only spent four hours fishing and fished duo as no fish were rising.
Took two six inch wbt in the run after the first hurdle up from the bridge in the first half hour. After successfully and safely negotiating the next few fences I came on a run with a trout rising so covered it with the second cast and brought a ten inch beauty to hand. Took an eight inch trout a little further on and missed one take from a cracking fish which looked to be the biggest of the day.
Thanks to Allyson at the Wye and Usk.

Conditions overhead good, conditions under foot not so good. Low, gin clear water made for a difficult day. Steady mixed hatch, managed 5 wbt off the top, 4 of which were plump 10"-12"'ers. All safely returned to pass on their genes in the coming months.
At this time of year this beat is hard yards, and far too many of them for me.

Fishing dry fly. River very low and clear. Conditions too difficult for my basic skills.

Last visit to this lovely river for this year. Skipped the first half mile as I wanted to get past the bulk of the fences and make it all of the way up to the top of the beat. Saw a few fish rise, although I couldn't tell what they were rising to, although there were a couple of Autumn Duns flying about, but very little else hatching. Landed three and missed half a dozen others, all on size 16 DHE and a small sedge.

Fished the top of the beat for a few hours this morning. Fishing very tough even though fish were rising. I spent most of the time spooking fish.

Hard work today, very little water moving through the stream, not much hatching and little sign of fish. Did manage to get 1 to the net though and lost another - both took a small DHE.
