6 x trout 6-8 inches, Rusty Klinkhammer. This one could definitely use some branch trimming and access maintenance. The barbed wire fairy has been quite liberal with her gifts wherever anglers seek to pass. .

Fished from 2pm to 6pm and moved fairly quickly over whole beat. Very overgrown but some pools very castable. 3 fish caught up to 10". The largest caught in the short bit of The Monnow at the start of the beat. No hatch at all and quite hot conditions with little breeze. All fish came up for a dry green olive.

Water levels were low but a few fish rose steadily all day in the deeper pools. Not surprisingly Mayfly was the most successful The best fish were 13 and 15"
We met two of the farmers who own land along the left bank. Very friendly and interesting to talk to.
I strongly recommend a stay at The Crown in Longtown where very importantly you will still be served supper and a pint well after the fish stop rising and get all the local gossip and have a good nights rest. 5 star rating!

Fished 10.00 - 13.30hrs. A sultry, overcast and still morning with intermittent breaks of sunshine. The brook could have done with another couple of inches of water, but conditions were far from the hopeless end of the spectrum; just challenging.
The only signs of fly (a nondescript small olive, for the most part) and of surface feeding fish were in pools where plenty of light penetrated the canopy. I fished hard and moved on quickly in the more shaded sections, scaring several fish along the way. Three well conditioned 8" trout proved too greedy to resist a size 16 parachute greenwell.
This a charming beat, and I greatly enjoyed myself. There is a lot of water to cover and it appears to contain a good head of trout. However two single bank sections are clearly an issue for "the opposition", and this could lead to an occasional awkwardness. Once into the brook, access and wading is generally easy, but actually getting into the water through barbed wire at the lower end is a teaser. A properly signed public footpath (well away from the water's edge) provides an easy route back to the parked car from the top of the beat.

Warmer today, good quantities of insects seen, including mayflies. Caught two 7 inchers, one 8 inches and an 11 inch trout. Two on a dry sedge and two including the 11 incher on a mayfly. Unfortunately had to leave at 2 p.m. for the long drive back to Kent. Would have liked to stay longer on this interesting stream.

25+ to hand , with 6 taking beadhead nymphs until the sun broke through. Olives started peeling off at 12.30 and the trout locked onto them instantly. I netted a further 7 in this half hour period then they switched to mayfly at 1p.m. I netted a further 12 or so over the next 2 hours. Size wise all were between 7-12 inches with the better sized fish taking the mayfly pattern. the Olchon was carrying a little extra water which always helps on this beat.

No rising fish seen and very little fly life. Fished for 2-3 hours with weighted nymph but no success. Wish the weather would warm up!

Very tough going couple of hours on the Olchon, overnight rain must have been far heavier here than expected, stream was filling on arrival and full of colour. Nine to hand all taken on 2.5mm tungsten beaded olive nymph from the centre to tails of pools within an hour, then the water clarity went from coffee to chocolate. battled on for another half hour but had to concede defeat. Plus side trout were in their feeding lanes and a fair few LDOs trickling off between 12-1pm .
