Enjoyable afternoon on a nice stretch of river. Water level was low but still plenty of fish moving around and managed to convince one with a brown sedge.

8 x trout 9-14 inches, Duck's Dun Baetis. Mostly 10 inch fish. A dull day, 5 to 11 degrees, with an increasing chilly wind. Nothing much hatching or rising during the morning, although I was slightly surprised to come across a solitary turkey brown. Olives did begin to hatch and some fish reacted to them after lunch.

Brief olive hatch in afternoon. Water fishable but fairly low and clear. 2 small trout rising to unidentified bugs caught on parachute adams. Good trout (10In) caught in fast run below bridge with sedge.

A nice afternoon session in the warm sunshine after setting up camp at Tan house farm.
Looked a bit better now after recent flush through but of course very low again .Not much moving on top but a few oncers here and there to give the game away .
A couple of uppper Monnow lovelies came to hand and a few more bounced off and some others moving in the real tight inaccessable stuff so happy with that to round the season off here .
Been a tough one for sure but seems the fish have just about held out . Hardly any flow seem to coming in from the Escley but upper beat water pushing in to the junction pool nicely .
Spent fair bit of time relishing the fine weather and admiring the start of the autumnal colours on the black mountains .!
It's a beautiful place here for sure.

Eventually got to the river via diversions around Abergavenny - roads closed etc, hope it was not too serious. Monnow as low as I have seen it, and very slimy. Landed 5 at 7" - 10", on either a small GRHE or para midge. The para attracted interest everywhere from small parr - if they all survive it will mean many fish!!

The river is now extremely low (which was to be expected ) and still has a lot of silt on the bed (again expected) but it still has the distinct brown turbidity to the water . Thought that may have cleared now ? A strange one .
However an evening session working through slowly till late confirmed there's a good number of fish about still in the usual spots so that's good and even with nothing hatching/falling really till late on I saw a good number of fish on top ...rather more than spooky though in the low water ! Good numbers of assorted bugs on the rocks where flow was good.
Pleased with the ones I had, 6" to 11".

Overcast & warm. Not much colour after last weeks rain. Nothing rising early. So fished size16 gold bead hares ear. Immediate success. Had lots of takes that I missed. Caught 5 on above fly. There were the odd mayfly coming off. Saw a fish rise a few times so changed to a dry mayfly. I think I caught the fish rising, then anther shortly after, missed one further upstream. Then nothing more. Biggest at 7". Good fun. Those of you who have this sort of fishing on your doorstep should be very grateful.

A quick couple of hours or so after breaking camp and forcing myself to return to the reality of life and it was carrying a touch of colour and very quiet on top but winkled out 3 on a tan klinkhammer so very happy with that .
Bounced off a few more of the bigger chaps that lurk here too ( it might just be me but have found they do tend to go a bit bonkers here when hooked !) , so they're still there which is good to know .
I will be back...
