Well , decided to give the Lugg a bash before the impending downpour , and to be honest initially it was spot on , overcast , mild , and the brownies were hitting the Mohican Mayfly with some vigour !!!! I fished half of a neighbouring club water and half of the Litton beat , and by midday , I must admit , i was beaten by the rain !!!!

The fish were definitely looking up , and smashing the mayfly pattern , I guessed that they would still remember what a big juicy mayfly tasted like , and they were coming up from some of the deep pools , and hammering it !!!! Always tricky keeping them on , with a large barbless fly , and in a tally of eight this morning , four threw the hook , and had two long range releases . . . . . . . . . .

The fish were in cracking condition , as always with the Lugg fish , and ranged from seven to twelve inches , with gorgeous colouration as always . . . . The nearby Cascob Brook , was a real torrent by midday , and I was ready to call it a day by half twelve , some Great sport , on a dank , soggy day , back to the Ponderosa , log burner on , and a large glass of something nourishing me thinks !!!!!!! Back to the lovely Lugg very soon , great to have some decent rain al last , spot on !!!!!!

Mayfly hatching. Rose 15 trout caught 5. This beat is a riparian assault course. It needs some styles in the barbed wire fences. Don’t wear your expensive waders.

Rocked up at the Litton beat having fished a neighbouring beat of the club I'm in during a couple of hours in the morning , from the onset brownies hammering the mayfly , and plenty of other upwings on manoeuvres too !!!!! Including Coch y bonddu beetle , as the field I walked down to the river was alive with them , absolutely crawling with the little beetles , great to see . . . . .

A warm muggy day , reading nineteen degrees when I set up at half ten , lovely weather for dries , I'd say ! And it certainly was , trout smashing my grey Wulff , and Mohican mayfly with aggression and with some serious gusto !!!!!

Most fish were in the eight to ten inch range , but in a tally of twenty three I had five seriously tubby brownies , that put up a good bend in the six foot , two weight rod , Great stuff !!!!! Some in the thirteen maybe fourteen inch range . . . , in gorgeous condition !!!!!

A lot of catapult casting and spending a lot of the day on my knees in the stream , but under the canopy was the place to be today on a hot one like today . . . . . . Easy to cast kneeling , and certainly more stealthy .

Called it a day at half three , superb sport , with some gorgeous fish brought to hand , and twenty three caught , with half a dozen throwing the barbless hook , as it was difficult to keep them on the large bushy fly !!! Still a fantastic few hours went home a happy Chappy , a few ambers nectars out with Mrs A. later . What could be better , happy days . . . . . . . . . . . One to remember while I'm supping my Stowford Press later on !

Dull drizzling day and relatively cold. Nothing moving. No fish caught.
I have to face it that I enjoy wild stream fishing more in principle than practice , may well be something to do with my barbed wire management and lack of close presentation skills ! Maybe another day

A bit cooler today and strong downstream wind. Started with dry fly but soon gave that up as casting and control was pretty impossible in the wind. Fishing a Copper tungsten nymph in the heads of the pools got plenty of attention.
Landed 6 Trout of around 6 inches missed and lost plenty more.

Started fishing the WUF beat of the Lugg at about eleven , having fished a club water further down for an hour , and picked up two crackers on an olive nymph by half ten . . . . . Had some light refreshments , and was itching to get going again . .. . Sunny , clear and blue blue sky , already by eleven some serious insect activity , including some yellow Sallies on the go !!!!!

I did chop and change dry Adams for olive tungsten nymph just to cover the deep pools , although four out of the six fish from the Litton beat were on the Parachute Adams , all between seven and ten inches , great fun , nice confident splashy rises to the fly too , excellent !!!!

Didn't fish the full beat today , and fished this stretch for three hours , spot on. The Lugg brownies are starting to perk up big time , nivoce to see , and the colours of them are superb as always . . . . .

So that rounded off the day nicely , just a few hour s in this peaceful valley , six gorgeous brownies to the net , and four on the Adams , idyllic , back very soon , when the mayfly is in full force !!!!!!,

Not the most productive day unfortunately. Weather was good with occasional showers, river was very clear with a manageable flow - all looked good. The beat is not the most accessible (fenced with relatively few access points) and wading is obstructed by fallen trees, cattle gates and overgrowth but we were not deterred and approached it upstream with optimism. By the end of the day we had hooked five fish and netted none. We lost count of the number of flies taken by the 'tree trout'. But are we discouraged? Not on your life. We will be back!

Arrived at this beat for an afternoon session in the bright sunshine, as expected no fish rose and I opted for a pair of deep jig nymphs fished in the dark holes along the beat. Two fish of a good average size fell for the point fly. More flies lost than fish as any chance of take had to be within inches of structure to reach where the trout were hiding. A nice beat I would visit again.
