Cooler than of late but sunny with some showers. Not a lot of fly life, or water, but had some sport with a small PTN and enjoyed the company of kingfisher, dipper, buzzard and sparrow hawk. Very pleasant way to end the season.

One very small brown trout taken on a Para Adams. This was my first experience of wild stream fishing and it is definitely challenging! Water lower than expected. One or two mayfly about but mostly very small emergers in the surface film.

8 x trout 6-13 inches, Monnow Gosling. Another hard work kind of afternoon, hot with a big wind blowing this time, but still almost no fish rising. Still there were some mayfly about and prospecting the likely spots brought a few fish up. Holding the fish to unhook them, I had the feeling their tight stomachs were already jammed full of mayfly! And mayfly were having their disco dance in the shelter of a hedge as I set off for home.

Arrived 3.30 ish. The odd fish rising in the deeper pools. Used nearly every fly in my box with no interest and then tried a large Adams which did the trick with 4 nice decent size WBT. Not a lot of water up there.

First day fishing wild streams and had invaluable help from guide Oliver Burch - put me on to all the right spots. Unfortunately I ruined many with poor casting. Excellent hatches of olives and later mayfly and fish taking from surface. Longdistance release of several. Around 4 beautiful wbt to hand. Beautiful beat.

Dry fly and nymph fished front 2 pm to 4.30pm and no fish taken or seen. Water brown and fast and gradually getting darker throughout afternoon. Flow very fast and water quite high. Bottom is Rocky and slimy and studded waders would have been better. A lovely water for later in the year.
