Fishing the wild streams is for me a solitary period of time. I have to admit I spend a lot of time talking to myself! Today was a rare occasion when due to there being two separate parking places at either ends of the beat two us must have arrived simultaneously at each and then met on river. I must say it was a pleasure to meet and chat with knowledgeable O.B.of Gloucestershire and we comfortably shared the beat.
2 small grayling 8" and 10" to a size 18 tungsten bead PTN under a big dry. Unsurprisingly my fellow fisherman did much better! Lovely day with a hint of spring but there are Goosanders around.

5 x grayling 11-18 inches, trotting. First time for me on this beat, which is a long haul from where I live. A difficult morning to begin with, but some grayling, including several really nice ones, turned up as the day went on. An interesting chat with - and thanks for advice from - SC from Llandeilo Graban who fishes this beat a lot. I opted to trot as maggots were already in store, but I suggest it's probably better as a fly water. I would love to be here with fish rising.

Underestimated the amount of rain that fell during the night. The river was very coloured, rising with a strong flow. Sheeps carcass beached on gravel spit mid stream on lower section. Not a touch today.

For first time this winter I neither caught nor saw any grayling on this beat..not a touch despite fishing at all depths and with many changes of nymphs. The two small trout, 8"ish, came to size 16 hares ear on the bottom. The water was very coloured to begin with but had cleared by 3pm.

Nothing to be seen on the surface so fished size 16 tungsten bead hares ear under a bushy klink. All the fish from the bottom of the same pool, grayling 15" ,13½ "12" all good heavy fish, trout was 10". Lost two more due to fishing barbless. Came across a 5 lb ish dead salmon with what looked like a bite taken out from the underside....I've never seen an otter on this beat and wondered what the culprit was?

Fished from 10am-3pm, plenty of surface activity from grayling and a salmon. Took a 14" fish in the first hour but had to wait until much later for the other two, one of which was a huge 17½" the other 12". I fished some excellent barbless tungsten nymphs (barblessflies.com) and lost several other fish who shook themselves off. Fish took size 18 nymphs under a Klinkhammer. Came across a freshly dead (suffocated) trout which was strange.
Good to have met Louis from WUF there and learnt about the work which was done on the river.

The river is back up to normal flow, it was a bit coloured and running fast. There was a constant stream of olives on the water but absolutely no rising fish until 3.30. I fished 1.5mm tungsten bead nymphs under a bushy klinkhammer all 3 grayling took the nymphs, 10"-15 ½" and surprisingly docile. The afternoon saw some rising fish taking tiny flies and chancing them being grayling I fished size 18 para Adams but took a large trout 14" and decided to stop for the day.

I took a good friend along with me this time, and I stupidly told him there were plenty of fish in this river (there are).
The weather was 12-15 degrees, overcast and no wind.
The river however looked lower than it did in May and very clear. We managed a couple of grayling, one taken on the fly fly, and a couple of oos brownies.
Saw quite a few fish rising but could only get the one to come to the fly. Nice day out though, in very mild conditions.

Fished from 11-3 ..nothing doing until 12.30 despite searching carefully with nymphs and then an olive hatch brought some rising fish. 4 Grayling from 12" to 14", Trout was around 14" and fish came to Para Adams,Griffiths Gnat and Greenwells all size 16. Glad I'm catching more Grayling than Trout on this beat, it was the opposite this time last year.
