Approx. 500 metres of truly wild brown trout, grayling and the rare chance of a salmon on the River Balder. The stretch is strictly from below the cottage for 500 metres downstream on the right bank. This is an incredibly wild and almost prehistoric river, full of character and the opportunity to fish virgin water. The majority of this river is heavily tree lined with rocky scars and boulders.

This small river is a hidden gem. It is an incredibly challenging water with a wonderful mixture of pocket fishing and small deep pools, all of which have probably never seen a fly, spinner or worm.

Wading on this beat is hard and great care must always be taken, a wading staff is a must. Please take care when near the steep sides of the river bank. The river Balder can be a fast rising river, so please take care to check on-line river levels and the weather reports before venturing out.

Go to methods will be single upstream spiders, nymphs and dry fly. Fishing with a 6ft 6in or 7ft 6in rod, line rating #2/3 is the perfect choice of fly rod. A small spinning rod and mepps, or worm fishing set-up could result in an exciting surprise.
