It's been a VERY long time since I've fished the first day of the river season as it's normally more miss than hit for me. I'd been rewarded with a beautiful sunrise and an indecisive wild boar on my journey before I'd even seen the river. I fed the bottom pool with some pellet before fishing the run on the float on meat over hemp. 3 nice chub in the first hour before a move to the bottom pool produced 5 chub, 2 eels and a small barbel on bomb and meat over loose feed. Couldn't get a bite on pellets
Another move back up on the run gave me 2 more small barbel on corn and a blackcap feeder/hemp before a last go on the float produced 2 more chub. Left at 1300. Nothing over 3lb but a solid start, enjoyable start to the season on a gorgeous morning.

First day of the season and arrived to find plenty of swims available. River looked okay after the previous weekends heavy rain had washed through, nice height and colour. Weather very hot though and quite slow fishing throughout the day. Changed swims and caught 3 x chubb but no sign of the barbel.

I feared the worse on a hot sunny day at Caradoc and unsurprisingly was not alone with plenty of other people enjoying the river....The fishing was slower than expected but I was entertained with a swimming race...the participants were not quite Olympic standard but I got a good view of the action as they splashed through my swim a couple of times...There are a considerable amount of small Chub in the stretch and I caught about 20 in the 4 to 12 oz bracket...3 Good Chub rounded off a reasonable day in view I packed up before 7.30pm and fished from 10.00am in scorching conditions.

Not very impressed by the location. Poor access and untended swims. The state of the river was sad to see, I had heard about how bad the algae had got but it was much worse than I had thought. Stayed for a couple of hours and then drove to Hereford.

Chub, chub, chub, I gave up counting! Two eels to break the sequence and no chub of any significant size, 4lb 4oz the biggest. Weather hot, river low and brown, banks overgrown.
