I was fishing on my own and covered the 3 pools suitable for fishing with a fly with no luck. No fish were showing. I particularly enjoyed fishing Lady Alexanders Catch; a most attractive pool.

I caught a half pound trout which I tried to return but it expired when I was removing the hook.

I noticed 2 people fishing, probably for trout, on the opposite bank near Abernant Stream in the morning.

River still high (covering large areas of shingle normally exposed during the summer) and coloured. Trotting with a centre pin all day - only fished the streamier swims at the bottom of the beat (below the croy). Sausage meat and luncheon meat bait. First fish turned out to the largest of the day - 4lbs. Sadly no barbel.

No work had been done on the parking area by the river - all overgrown. No really suitable for regular cars (especially if wet), only 4x4s.

River levels at 0.71 on the Ross gauge. The river was dropping after a bunch of rain a few days before. I decided once I got there I would pre bait a few swims and try and nick a bite as quickly as possible. It took a while to get a bite and my 3rd swim move I finally had a chub. The spot I dropped the most bait into I started fishing at 10:00am and by 10:30 I’d had 2 barbel and 8 chub. The spot was rocking. It dried up fairly quickly tho so I put a bit more bait in and left it for an hour. It wasn’t until 15:00pm that I managed another barbel.

I took my Grandson fishing and although we caught one very nice brown trout of about 12 inches, that was the only fish caught in about 6 hours. Not very exciting for a potential new angler and very expensive at £32.

Was lovely turning up at a favourite beat at half eight , only fished the two hours as had a pressing meeting in Builth later on ..... murky when I tackled up, my lovely little six foot two weight rod .........
I know from past experience fish are still prepared to smash dries in a coloured river here, so opted for my favourites for here, in size eighteen .....
Good fun from the off, nothing big today in a tally of seven , three long range releases also, slippy on the barbless hooks today !!! Was cool when I parked up , reading ten degrees in my truck but the fog soon lifted, with some upwings on the go and the odd sedge ...... fish smashing the dry in prospected fishy places, and just had the one riser .... lovely confident hit to my fly !!!
Must admit getting a bit of a jungle here, I cut out into the field just a hundred yards up from the Bridge..... resembling Belize up there!!! May give the Cammarch or another Edw beat a bash early bells tommorrow, lovely being on the streams after a month off them, enjoying the mountain llyns and reservoirs around my local patch in Rhayader .... a really pleasant two hours on a cracking little technical beat..... Happy days!!!!!

Area:Deepdale Beck

Beat:Deepdale Woods

Fishing:All Species (in season)

No. of Anglers:1

Fishing becomes more challenging on the way up. Don't be put off by the overgrowth, there's rivers and streams out there with much denser banks than this. Like most streams and becks, the fish are small but compensate with their beauty.
As it is a first visit, I'm not sure what the water clarity is usually like but today the beck was flowing with a dark tea colour. Nymphs used today were copper olive jigs and holographic blue ribbed hares ears.

I recommend using a single nymph and have a vary of different sized beads depending on the flow and depth as the bed is snaggy from the rocks.
