Conditions looked good and I caught a nice 2lb trout after a few mins on a black woolly bigger. Got harder after that! Few knocks on the same woolly bugger, and tried nymphing the pockets, but nothing else to the net all day. Saw a handful of LDOs in the air and witnessed one splashy rise, otherwise very quiet indeed.

River was quite coloured but level and temperature seemed okay so was optimistic. Fished a number of swims in the first field in rotation for most of the day without a bite. Went for a walk and fished a few tight swims further up where I managed to find a small chub happy to take a chunk of bread. Returned to the bottom field and went through the swims again with nothing to show for it. Eventually as everything was being packed away the tip went round and I was attached to a decent chub that went 4-1 on the scales. Really expected more than just two chub in the day and was left wondering where that 4-1 and his mates had been for the rest of the day.

The river has had a small dirty lift of 4” or so which got a bit worse throughout the day and didn’t help prospects. Still fishable though when I left at 3.30.
No sign of any salmon up again today
