No fish taken. 2 brown trout one v small one about 1/2 lb caught on pheasant tail nymph

Thunder and rain, no trout caught, fished beat B. Very nice stretch of water

No fishing. After 20 mm rain the Honddu stream went very murky en after mixing whole Usk at Dinas was as murky with less than 10 inch visibility.
We’d like to change our permits for another upstream beat iUsk is still clear on monday.

A nice fish of one and a half pounds caught on a dry fly at the top of the best mid morning

Weather partly cloudy with a very light breeze, turning cloudy and still on the afternoon. River at the lowest level I've ever seen it, hardly any flow at all.

All fish taken on a klinkhammer, sizes between 6 - 12 inches.

A couple of dace caught on the fly, and a few trout seen but couldnt interest them. Also accidentally hooked 3 shad whilst swinging a wet fly over the course of the day, which were swiftly returned safely.

5 Other

The beat was booked for two anglers.
Angler 1 (Richard) caught one small Grayling (about 7 oz) before midday in a pool down-stream from the road bridge, on a dark bodied nymph with a olive throat hackle (not sure of the actual pattern). There were several other active fish in the pool (assumed also to be Grayling) but no more takes were forthcoming.
Angler 2 (David) caught two small trout in the deep pool (with the high banks occupied by sand martin birds), in the field above the road bridge. These were taken on gold head hares ear nymphs. Again these were very small fish of 5oz and 8 oz approx but in good condition.
Generally, there were only a few small fish rising on the river .
Fly-wise, a sparse hatch of Mayflies were seen during the day.
The river was quite low, which was not a surprise following the long dry spell that we have just experienced.
Enjoyment-wise, we both had a very enjoyable day in beautiful, peaceful surroundings, away from mobile phone contact.
It was a delight to meet the current tenants of the fishing lodge by the river: but a little sad to hear about the decline of the fishing and the general neglect of the stiles and bank-side bushes and trees over the years.

River quite low….very few fish rising, in fact we only saw two fish all day. Warm, sunny day.
It is a beautiful beat but fishing is difficult in these conditions.
A lot of dog walkers, some dogs in the stream.
