Much improved from our last visit, signs for parking, loads of decent swims dug out, fishing was a struggle in the bright sun but Stephan the bailiff pointed us to some good spots, which saved the day for a few of us , so big thanks to him. If you’re after some proper food after fishing try the Mill chase inn only 5 minutes away, capped off a fine day!

Fished the rubbish tip swim only today rather than roving along the stretch. River looked superb, nice tinge of colour, decent pace. I fished a mix of groundbait feeder and straight lead with paste wrapped pellet and boilies. Fished from 1130-1830. First bite came after about 15 minutes and frustratingly resulted in a decent barbel lost at the net. The next bite came shortly after and I was very happy to slip the net under a cracking barbel of just two ounces under 8lb (a PB). The sport then slowed just as I was wondering if I might be on for a red letter day. I managed three chub (the best was 5lb 4oz) for the rest of the session. The last hour was stunningly beautiful and felt so right for another bite. Alas, no such luck. I like this stretch but it is pretty weedy.

A good day. Arrived at 7.30am and was on water by 8. First fish within 20 minutes, a Barbel of about 7lb. Went like a train.
This was followed in quick succession by a 9lb fish (weighed, missing chunk out of tail )and a Chub of about 2lb. All on ledgered pellet. Took break for tea. Next fish was 10lb and 4oz Barbel (weighed) a new Wye PB for me. Perfect condition Followed up by by two more Chub, between 1 and 3lb. Lunch around Noon. Wander and checked out other pegs. Thought I'd be joined by two others, but they didn't materialise. At one resumed, and took large Chub (6lb) which fought well, and might've passed for Barbel. Between 2 and 4 quieter patch. Street Pegged luncheon meat, took Chub of about 2lb and a Dace. Lost small Perch. Back on ledger from 4 till 6. Fidgeted between meat and pellet. Rattled a lot on meat, but no fish. 2 more smaller Barbel, one at about 2lb and one at 4.
Pleasing. Conditions were excellent. Pegs in good order, with steps cut and fairly dry bank. Would endorse what others say - spike and rope recommended. Fish caught throughout day. A lovely stretch of river. Nobody seen in 12 hours.
6 Barbel, 4 Chub, 1 Other
