Fished 10.30-4.00,river low even after some recent rain, occasional drizzle and chilly. Fish came steadily from mid way to the bottom of the beat. Dolmeudwy is a bit of a precarious wade now in the low water and increasingly slippery conditions. You never feel that you are far from a fateful slip there ,and as there are going to be thousands and thousands of silver tourists flooding into Tweed next week, the last thing I wanted was a broken wrist, which despite a couple of stumbles ,was avoided.
Hardly saw a fish rise today, nothing caught on the top, and nearly all fish taking various nymphs, Rang the changes with the dropper but only a few caught on a Partridge and Orange and, surprisingly, didn’t hook any OOS Grayling. Lost count of the number of small 6-7”trout today, probably 20+ along with 3 or 4 around 9”to 10”. An evening rise wasn’t likely with the conditions, so an earlier finish than I had intended.

Me and my son could not cast a fly in the 40 mile an hour winds, and were ill equipped for the amount of rain when trying to fish with worm, we WILL be back, after seeing others catches in the reports, and the mill pond like water in the photos compared to the stormy sea we faced, we WILL be back, it is a beautiful place.

Weather turned against us during the day with fishing becoming challenging. Three all caught on Adams Parachute after targeting rising fish. Campers and wild swimmers needed to be accommodated.

Day started bright, though rain came late morning and settled in. Upstream wind all day made going quite difficult.
All fish caught on nymphs

Best of the fishing in the morning. Mostly fished above the bridge up to start of beat. Water in good condition although low. Only a few rising fish, on and off within minutes. All caught on various weighted nymphs - Holy Grail, PTN (variant), Hares Ear. Fish up to 2lb. Very squally, rainy windy conditions in the afternoon made any attempt at the dry’s difficult. Nice to meet Louis again (Wye Usk), a fountain of knowledge and useful fishing information. We’ll be back. :)
