Sunny day, river coloured and pulling through due to overnight rain. Fished in meadow at the dead tree swim. 1x chub. Getting caught up in downstream bush, so moved to an old swim upstream that hadn't been fished for years but old steps still cut in the bank. Managed to sit with chair in the water and caught barbel and chub. Later on, moved back down towards car park and caught barbel and chub. All Barbel 5 to 6lb, on hair rigged meat, straight lead. Did not try the wooded section.

My first trip to middle hill court and I must congratulate the baliff on the excellent work he has done on the upkeep of the swims on this fishery, steps cut into the bank and dog spikes and ropes provided in many swims very helpful in wet and slippery conditions. The river was up and pushing through with good colour water temp was 10.3 deg so all looked well for a good day but surprisingly it turned out to be a hard days fishing, tried a variety of baits and fished most swims on the beat but could only catch the odd fish in each swim all fish caught on meat and pellet feeder.

The river up and rising slightly after a frosty, clear night and the sun coming out during the day made for tricky conditions. We worked hard moving between swims and managed a lovely 8lb 6oz Barbel and three Chub. Quite the wildlife day also with peregrines hunting fast over the river and a very confident otter feeding in our swim.

Arrived early to a beautiful misty morning. There was a good flow on the river from the rain but the night before had been the first cold snap and I think this just switched things off. Tried most of the swims along the beat apart from the far bottom end. Also tried meat on the feeder, pellet with ground feeder and hemp. Did allot of walking. £30 and 10 hours. 1 Chub.

Arrived early to a beautiful misty morning. River was up after the rain. Was expecting a good day but I think because of the previous night’s cold snap, this switched things off. My fellow angler read the water temp at 10 degrees. Started well by loosing two sets of tackle from two casts in the top swim then spent an hour in a different swim along most of the beat. Tried feeding them up but didn’t seems to work. Didn’t try the far end but did allot of walking. Spent 10 hours trying and had allot of knocks in the 4th swim from the top so shortened the hook link and managed 1 Chub which was about 2lb. Was hoping for more and stayed put in that swim for another few hours until sunset but nothing showed itself. Tried meat and various sized pellet and dumbbell on the feeder with ground bait and hemp.

I'm afraid that I blanked. I had one bite all day - a good fish lost as I was reaching for my landing net. Conditions were challenging - river high and charging through again. 4 ounce lead was required and still moving. Wonderful wooded hillside in front of me - shame about the early rain. It was difficult to find a fishable swim - I assume because the water was quite high. I ended up going downstream from the north car parking area (where the caravan is) and walked a long way before I found one.

Nic and I arrived to a very swollen looking river which was on the rise during the session (circa 20-30cm) fishing was tough and dropping on to the fish was the key. Both fished ground bait feeders with paste wrapped boilies and I fish meat from time to time. The Chub didn't seem to be the usual stamp with the best being around 3.5lb or so, the best barbel 7-8lb with two small ones amongst the 6 caught.
