We were expecting rain .... it had rained, and it kept raining. The Rheidol was up 2ft and a torrent at Hermitage and Llanbadarn - we decided not to fish either there or the Ystwyth. Although clarity wasnt bad the river was still rising. The alternative was to head up to the lakes behind Penrhyncoch although the clouds looked socked in on the mountains - and sure enough when we got up there about 2pm we were in the clouds - and off t'internet. But by 3pm things were brightening up so we drove back down the hill as far as was needed to get a momentary signal to phone the office and book the fishing - thanks Shannon in the office. Fishing was typical Syfydrhin ... fish in the margins and fish cruising up wind lanes. Second cast my fly drifted in to a bay to be walloped by a lovely pounder .... and 4 more followed between us. We fished for about 4 hours and were content with the action - until we got back down the hill and on to t'internet again. All afternoon the folks at Aberystwyth Angling had been trying to contact us - thanks folks! - to tell us where we needed to fish on the river. Another rod had a salmon, 6 sewin and two brownies off the Rheidol! We should have stuck to plan A.... ah well next week perhaps!

A great day on the river organised by Barri and where we had the expert fishing support and company of Lee Davies.
One Salmon was hooked but not landed, although this did not detract from the real pleasure/experience of the day, which was unfortunately cut short by the sudden surge of coloured water coming down the river following the torrential rain of the day before.

Bit of a change from last week at Middle Hill where I had an excellent session. Today was poor with continuous rain in the afternoon with only two small chub to show from my efforts. The river was up a fair bit more than the previous week and a few cooler nights didn’t help but still expected more from here. The lower section of the beat is pretty much wasted which is a shame as in certain conditions & times of the year I’d expect fish to move into the slower water. The scenery and surroundings of the Wye never disappoint

A bit disappointed at the limited number of places to fish from safely, to say the backs are steep would be an understatement. The far bank is totally unfishable from the bank apart from the island where the only access would be wading in low water conditions.. In my opinion it is misleading to advertise fishing from both banks. Probably wouldn't fish here again.

Writing on behalf of a friend who really struggled to find a place for him to fish from (he's not a mountain goat).
