Turned up to find that the river level had gone up two feet overnight. The level continued to rise quite quickly and I had to evacuate my first swim. Tried one more swim before settling into a third swim well downstream. First barbel was 9.14 lbs and what a scrap in the fast water! Three more barbel followed as the light faded to make it a good day.

Arrived at the river with it having risen 0.7m overnight so that dictated it would be a day for big feeders. In the morning the fishing was hard as I tried most swims along the length of the beat with little to show. However, as the water started to drop early afternoon the fish came on the feed and several nice chub and 3 barbel were taken before curfew. Biggest barbel nearly 9lb and biggest chub a good 4lber.

Another cracking day on this beat which is kept relatively wild which is in keeping with its location. There are swims but they are not manicured or roped and you need to be fairly agile and mobile to get the best out of the stretch, not to mention the walk out at the end of the day up a very steep path which will get your blood pumping and your lungs tested. Travel light and don't plan too many (if any) trips back to the car unless you are very fit (or want to be).

Overcast and warm with river looking good. Caught 7 chub around 4lb however barbel didn’t show.
Also caught an eel. The river Wye is a beautiful place to fish Whoever left there empty can of sweet corn and there banana skins and rubbish in the swim should be banned from the river! You know who you are….

2 Anglers. 4 barbel and 4 chub. Lucky with the mild weather. River gently rising throughout the day. One good barbel in morning and three in afternoon towards dusk. All on pellet. Both fished along the first stretch by the car park in a number of swims. Kingfishers wonderfully ever present and by the end of the day a number of trees going past! Only a few canoes- all very pleasant. Take heed about the hill and thanks to the kindness / patience of others getting us out of a pickle.
