A bright afternoon and sunny evening with the river quite low and at a steady height. Fishing with feeder and pellet or meat. Hooked and lost a barbel around 16.30 (hook pull) with a second bite an hour later resulting in a barbel of around 6lbs. The chub was small.

Difficult access to quite a lot of the water. Mostly contending with overhanging trees and finding a suitable point to get in the water because of steep banks. . Some lovely fly water but deep wading and slippery rocky bottom in places makes it a bit scary at times. The section below Biblins Bridge is easy to access and great fly water. I think it would be a difficult beat to fish properly given a bit more water.

Beautiful sunny day, but I fished swims with tree cover providing shadow. Water had some colour and a little bit of weed coming down, but pretty easy to fish. Used a caged feeder with groundbait, hemp and pellets, with either pellet or meat on the hook. 7 chub to 4lb 4oz and 6 barbel from 5lb 7oz up to 9lb. Barbel came from 3 different swims and throughout the day. There were quite a few swims at water level which were very easy to get down to, with plenty of room to fish and cast from. Brilliant day so will be back soon.

A new beat for us - there were two anglers. Very impressed with the management of the angling facilities - in fact with the entire farm. Though the banks were largely covered in brambles, balsam and nettles, which seems to be obligatory these days, fencing was a single stand of electrified fence which was easily scalable. Weather was good though water was low. Wading was relatively easy but with occasional deep holes so caution was necessary. As ever, my buddy proved his superior ability and landed 3 grayling (one a very nice fish) and an OOS trout. I wasn't completely outclassed though as I managed to land one 10 inch or so grayling late in the day.

Parked at the lower car park and fished the lower half of the beat only. Bank erosion means that the only way to progress upstream requires wading across the river. We were able to do this (Abernant gauge 0.47m) but higher levels might make this very challenging. One lovely grayling 15" and a smaller brown trout, both caught on dry fly in the middle of the day.

A lovely day on beat 4 plenty of knocks but nothing really developed. Switched from meat to 8mm pellet, smaller hook and lighter line and bang…..a 12lb+ barbel came to the net followed by a 6lb chub (a PB!) and a little latter a 5lb+ chub ……all fish in perfect condition.

Fishing quite slow during the morning probably not helped by the overnight frost, no sign of fish showing all day. Dozens of pheasants though, obviously recently have been released waiting to be shot although they have no idea what's in store.

Our first time on this lovely beat and we will return. On a cold and frosty start to the day we walked the beat and found plenty of swims to choose from and decided on a couple 100 yards downstream of the hut. Glynn the gillie came along an hour or so after we had started fishing and informed us that these were probably not the most productive pegs at this time of year but we stuck it out and although no Barbel we managed 12 chub between us, the smallest around 3lb with the majority 4lb and above. We were kept company all day by two Kingfishers darting up and down all day, egrets, kites and buzzards. We were given advice by a friendly walker / angler on where to fish this beat next time so will take this on board.
