Well what a great day at How Caple Court. Started by walking the beat and baiting up a few swims before returning to the first swim to start fishing. River levels very low so started in the swims with faster flow about 1/3 along from the cattle grid parking . Feeder method with long hair and double 15mm pellet donevrgecttuck… Started with a 8.5lb barbel… my first ever…. WOW!! What a fight. Beautiful fish in every way, colouration, pristine condition… stunning.

Moved around a few shallower swims but nothing taking so went back to the area with best flow.. Followed up with 2 x 8lb, 1x 5lb snd 2x 6lb barbel. And lost a probable double figure at the net!!

Fantastic days fishing…

Fishing very hard going today. Water is still very low and a brisk north westerly didn't help. Caught 2 'blue' trout on the worm early on, but not a touch for the rest of the day. Left around 3pm ironically as conditions started to improve.

Blanked, water levels low. Missed a nice fish on the woodland stretch. Saw a Mink and a kingfisher flew past.
Beautiful fishery.
Thank you.

Great pleasure to introduce my friend, who caught his first grayling, to this beautiful beat. Ten fish in all. All caught on spider patterns.

Water level low but had 2 chub and a barbel. Note to the person who left discarded tins of san Pelegríno and Vimto in the long grass .. I have taken your rubbish home. That’s how beats get lost .. so don’t be a litter lout you dirty pig.

A fantastic beat with excellent access, it is a very quiet and secluded beat in stunning surroundings. The river was very low and clear so I expected the fishing to be difficult. I did manage to winkle out a few barbel up to around the 7lb mark and plenty of plump chub. All the fish came to standard feeder tactics. Can't wait to come back.

Given the weather forecast, I abandoned my plans to fish the last day of the season. Conditions looked perfect: overcast, a gentle breeze and the river freshened up by a little recent rain. No sign of any fly hatch so fished the fast oxygenated runs at the bottom of the beat with a PTN. Did nothing. The reason became apparent when Mr Lutra Lutra popped his head up right in front of me. Moved up above the bridge where a steady hatch of olives and iron blues (?) occurred from around 13:00 to 15:00. Persevered with dry fly imitations even though very few rises were showing. Switched back to nymphing when the hatch ended but finished with a blank day. Sums up the 2022 season for me!
