Conditions were good, overcast and warm. River level still low. Sited plenty of chub over the bridge, lots of chublets especially which is a great sign. Sited one salmon also of decent size. Fished ledger and pellets, loose feeding pellets in a peg on the roadside bank about 50 yards below the bridge.

All fish came from about 12pm to 4pm, with the barbel being caught around 3:30pm. The barbel was around 5lb. and in excellent condition. The Chub were from 1lb. - 3lb.

Excellent days fishing.

A very slow 2.5 hour evening session despite some extra water. Fished the lower part by the house, great water but they weren't really having it. Few rises seen. A couple of fish 12 - 13 inch landed and a few better ones lost on streamers/nymphs. Last evening of the year for me, it is getting decidedly autumnal.

Lovely barbel at 8-10 for Paul which made the week.
A polite question though about this beat, why are the parking and driving restrictions so draconian please?
One of our number is 85 years old and we 2 are no spring chickens but we’ve made it our mission to make sure the old boy can do the business. To do that this week we’ve lumped his and our gear from top to bottom 3 times this week. I can understand that the owners don’t want people driving on pristine grass fields but the lower end of the beat is simply a track and surely parking isn’t a problem? Please think of us older boys when making the rules, a few concessions would be appreciated

Beat:Llangollen Maelor Angling

Fishing:Trout (River)

This was my first time fishing the Dee. I really enjoyed it and will definitely return.

Fished from Vale of Llangollen Golf Course up to Lingo Pool starting at 9:30 and finished around 16:30,
Spiders produced no takes for an hour, so switched to duo mid-morning and took good fish on both nymph and dry.
As I moved upstream, I alternated between nymphs in the deeper runs and a small olive on the flat glides. Both productive.
The wind picked up mid-afternoon and that seemed to kill the fishing.

Best grayling 42cm.

Wading staff and studded boots recommended.
