The water was clear, and the river level was lowish. The weather was warm and sunny with some cloud. I walked and fished the whole length of the upper part of the beat, I saw no fish at all, no rises, and I didn't spook any either, I was wearing Polaroids and moving quietly. I fished the deep pools using a beaded nymph but had no interest there either. There were signs of otters. I also saw a few, but very few, spricks. The three birds a fisherman hopes to see; dipper, grey wagtail, and kingfisher were all present.

Was really looking forward to this beat as had great afternoon on dean and chapter day before. Unfortunately it was not a great day. Access is really hard walk down the hill is a pain especially if wet which it was. Then over a style with over hanging trees
So all gear off etc. Ist 1/3 of mile very hard to fish as water so low and bank steep and high above water
Found some faster water at bottom of beat ( more styles though so gear off/ back on etc. We both like trotting, swim looked great (last croy) fed pellet trotted
Using pellet, luncheon meat and finally maggot and could hardly manage a bite apart from a couple of small dace and a chublet. Switched to ledgered pellet and a good take from good fish but hooked pulled a few seconds into fight. Switched again to roll meat l good bite resulted in chub around 3lb had a few more bites which i missed so we packed up early with thoughts of the long walk back ( over styles, bridge and finally up the hill my pal really struggled with the hill. I personally wouldn't fish this beat again

Excellent day even though we only caught 1 fish. Beautifull setting and so secluded.
Many thanks

All of the fish were small and quickly returned.
Unless Dolmeudwy’s run’s are fished from the right bank, ( lumpy wading and standing on fish), there is little to offer trout fishers at this height. Still, a pleasant day on the river searching for fish.
On a more positive note, I saw a decent sized salmon moving up. Although obviously a stale fish, it didn’t appear to have any fungal lesions that I’ve seen on a number of fish in the lower river these past months.
A welcome sight indeed.

Scenic spot & the sun shone, but no fish. Water level still quite low. Some algae in places near the bank. A couple of fish rising at the lower end, but that was it! A Swan & Kingfisher visiting was nice at least..
