Beat:The Eyton Beat

Fishing:Trout (River)

Weather sunny and warm. 3 x Grayling up to about 11ins caught on black gnat and grey duster.
However only about 10% of the beat is really fishable. This being due to barbed wire, electric fencing, thick foliage and fallen/overhanging trees. A shame, because this is a really beautiful and prolific stretch of the river Lugg.

Given the weather conditions, arrived at the river at 17:00 hrs. I had tried to book an evening ticket but was told it was not available on this beat - though it is on the neighbouring Dina beat. River on its bones. I understand salmon fishing has been halted until water conditions improve. Nothing moving until a good hatch of olives began around 7pm and lasted for an hour. Trout did not latch onto them until the hatch was almost over. Concentrated on the (slightly) faster flowing shallows at the top of the beat. Every cast made was to a rising fish - though I think most were small WBT. Fish easily spooked and very wary but did tease one nice fish out on an olive fished in the surface film.

Fishing Passport Note : It is the fishery owners choice whether evening tickets are on option.

Beat:Pond Rhosrydd (Aberystwyth AA)

Fishing:Trout (Stillwater)

No. of Anglers:1

Didn’t fish. Went to fish Pond Rhosrydd because we were visiting area in a motorhome and Google Earth indicated there was a decent road to it and suitable parking by it. When we got there we found anglers are prevented from using the decent road and the track open to anglers appeared totally unsuitable for anything larger than a car or small van. Couldn’t risk the access and nowhere to park and walk in so turned around and went back to our campsite. Very disappointing.
