First visit here. Despite a little overnight rain the stream seemed very low, and the fish remained extraordinarly well hidden all day. The stunning scenery in the gorge was a considerable compensation, and the route out at the top of the beat is
recomended, despite the distances invloved: on the way down the lane you come to appreciate just how far and how high you have stumbled up the river bed!

Afternoon fishing with plenty of fly hatching. Fish caught on mayfly imitations, all around 9in. Tough little fighters. Plenty of missed takes. Sadly I only have an 8ft rod with me so the rod is too big and the talent too little to get into those tight little corners where fish were rising regularly.

Beat:Upper Tower

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

5 trout caught of 12 to 15 inches, and 5 more lost including (of course) a big one. Interesting beat with varied and good-looking habitat, only marred a bit by difficult access through trees and numerous electric fences. Some big fish visible, for sight-fishing, right under the high bank. Two fish caught on size 16 PTN during day; good rise (what on? a size 14 Klinkhamer olive worked) and most of the hook-ups from about 7 to 9.30 pm.
