Sunshine and light showers. River very low. Water at top of beat most promising. 4 trout and 1 salmon parr landed, many other fish bumped off. Saw many good trout in very shallow water half way along the stretch. Fish rising sporadically throughout the day. Parking and access very good.

Fished 11.30 to 1600. Blue sky to start , cloud building and complete cloud cover by 15.00. Warm to start but temperature fell around 3 pm when total cloud cover moved in. Wind light and variable. Went all round the clock. Olives hatching sporadically producing similarly sparse rises. Main action 13.00 to 1.30. Hooked 4 and landed 3 super feisty trout around 1.5 - 1.75 lbs. Failed to connect with about half a dozen more slashing takes. Fish were risen by targetting rises and likely seams with dries. Most rises were 'oncers' . Flies used were Olive Comparadun, Paraloop Spinner and CDC F Flies. A superb day to be on the river. Highly enjoyable.

Fishing:Member Rod

Fished with a fellow member rod today with only 6’’ on the gauge, but we had fish from the off and caught steadily through the day finishing at 5.30ish.
Ferry down to the bridge was very productive but with a lot of trout parr beating bigger fish to the fly.
Later on, 13 trout to 14’’ and 3 large grayling to 17’’, plus lots of small fish were caught along the length of the spring pool to the hut, with two good size trout on the same cast on two occasions.
All caught on a team of wets and nymphs and quickly returned. Nothing caught on the surface and barely saw a rise all day.
The only downside was that the wading on the heavily algae covered bedrock was treacherous in places and a number of clatterings could easily have resulted in a broken wrist so care is needed.

Staying nearby and always wanted to fish Courtfield in April so took advantage of a half price evening ticket to have a look. Signs at water plant say strictly no parking anywhere conflicting advice in the beat notes, so moved and parked on verge near Leg meadow crib. Opted to spin as river slow/low and short of time/new beat to me. Generally there's lots of deep slow water but spinning gaps between trees through legg meadow strangely felt excellent and several pike follows and a jack took a SHFC. Cribs through wood were lovely, then drove to lower end pools for a few casts. No Salmon seen but enjoyed a nice short evening session, easy welly boot spinning covered some interesting water. Many thanks to all allowing us to fish here.

Although no salmon were caught, a great day of casting tuition and guiding from Oliver Burch. I think the Ross gauge was at 0.55 and the water had about three feet of visibility so on the low end of medium height. The Vanstone didn’t reveal its treasures but there were fish present in the pool above, the corner tree.
