2 x trout 16 and 17 inches, DHE and Dai Lewis' March Brown. A lovely sunny day eventually, but a big temperature swing - from a ground frost in hollows to 20 degrees. A very brief March brown hatch about 12.15 to 12.30 provided the opportunity. One good fish lost. Otherwise the river was quiet in bright sunshine. The bed has moved considerably since I was last here - an island seems to have developed.

Good hatch of March browns around lunchtime causing significant interest. Rose several fish on dry March Brown pattern but only got one to the net. Other fish on Copper John and shrimp pattern. All fair-sized fish in good condition and returned safely.

Sporadic hatch noon time caddis, couple of March Browns all fish shaken off (barbless hooks) without netting. Chub was circa 3lb part of a group cruising around the stone catch, trout were too small to count on Klinkhamers in the run through Lady Alexander Catch. Fabulous weather, pleasurable fishing, miserable catching ...

River a good height and running clear. No fly life seen. Fished nymphs at various depths and spiders but no takers.
Will have to try again once the water warms up a wee bit…

Great day on the water. One Brown trout to the net on a nymph - 10 inches. Missed a few on the dry during the hatch that happened at around 13:00.

A lovely warm and sunny day on the lower section of the Breconshire Fishery. The river had fallen considerably over the last week and was clear and easy to wade, with no wind blowing to spoil my cast. A perfect day for the kingfisher, the yellow wagtails - and the cormorant. I started fishing at 10am with a team of spiders - without any luck - and, deciding that I did not want to use nymphs, swapped over to a dry fly rod ready for the hoped for mid-day hatch. Unfortunately, there was no apparent hatch, although the odd LDO and March Brown flew by. Three of four fish splashed the surface, but did not appear in the same place again. I assumed they were chasing nymphs, but I spent the rest of the day wading up to the middle section of the beat, prospecting with various Olive and March Brown dry flies, with virtually no success, apart from one little trout that felt sorry for me. Two other fishers had joined me that morning in the lower section of the river and I think their total tally was one trout between them on a nymph. It was that kind of day - a lovely day for trying to catch fish, if not such a great day for actually catching them.
