River very low with not many rises. Tried various dries with no success, then nymphs, just the one fish caught on small GRHE.

Lovely day but fairly bright & wind. A couple of short periods of fish rising, caught a good 12-14in on a sparkly Klink on edge of riffle. Several takes on dries which did not connect . As the wind got up the rises stopped. The other a 8-10in on a black copper john .

Started at the bottom of the beat and covered about 80% of the stretch during an afternoon and evening session. Mostly pretty shallow with a few deeper areas. No fish caught and didn't see a fish or a rise during the entire time I was there. Other anglers have caught so they must present. I suspect a more experienced angler would have fared better. But it's a vary scenic stretch and I would happily come back. There's a couple of places in the field above the caravan site where you can get out of the water and walk back along the bank to the caravan site ( I think this path extends all the way form the top of the beat to the caravan site). After walking around the edge of the caravan site you walk straight across the middle of the next field and then diagonally across the next one to join the Offa's dyke path at the bridge over the river. You can then follow the Offa's Dyke path back to the car.

First visit to the river Usk as have mostly been fishing the river Wye. As stated before the river is in need of a lot of rain to bring it up to its best. I did drive through the field as no sheep present and parked by bridge. Started bottom of beat and worked my way up. Some trout rising and did have a chance but missed to a fished KH side 10. Only action was at top of beat with the only fish of the day caught on size 10 jig black nymph which has been a winner recently. My biggest trout to date and was around 10/12 inches.

Good day fishing - a beautiful and wildlife-rich beat. Quite a lot of fish rising, many taking mayflies, however they were hard to tempt with dry flies in the big pools where the flow was slow due to the river being low, and they were easily spooked. The couple of fish I did catch were in the faster water at the head of the pools. Thinking about it afterwards I wondered if a mayfly nymph would have been a better bet in the slower water.
