No dice.

River rising and very cold indeed (5-6 degrees c). Also, so much debris, could hardly keep the line in the water for very long without encountering problems. Very challenging conditions.

Beautiful spot though and will be back when its warmer.

Lovely beat plenty of access points and some cracking features it was my first time fishing for grayling on the fly today and with very limited knowledge ocf them i had my work cut out the river itself was low today and gin clear but i thought lets give it a go...i fished traditional nymphs for 3 hrs and only managed 1 oos brownie around a pound in weight that slipped the hook before it was netted so after sit down a coffee and a sarnie i kitted up the french leader with some jig nymphs ive been tying ..3rd flick and i was into my 1st grayling then within 2hrs i managed to get 9 to the net ...cracking sport..thanks for the oppotunity to fish here i will be back..

I took advantage of the brief mild spell on Friday. The river had dropped overnight and had good colour.
The barbel was 8lb 1oz and fell to meat. Both Chub were between 1 and 2 lbs.
As always the wildlife was abundant and the highlight was an otter in my swim with its head up swimming backwards in the current and looking directly at me!
In summary, a slow day with only 4 bites but I can't think of anywhere else I would have rather been.

1 Barbel, 2 Chub

River showing 0.4 on the Byton gauge, slight rise overnight. Weather was overcast and misty but the rain stayed away.
Had 13 grayling between 4 and 12 inches and an absolute beauty at 15 inches.
Also lost 2 about the same size at the net and lost 3 other good fish due to hook pulls.

14 Grayling
