My second visit to this stretch river lower and clearer than last time. 1 barbel and 2 chub came in 20 minute spell around midday rest of day no bites. Friday is pheasant shooting day a friendly lot but not sure 6 blokes blasting away in field above me and dogs jumping in river helped the fishing.

Well, the conditions this week were as bad as they were good last week:
Temperatures dropped every night leading up to a frost the morning we fished and clear blue skies. The river was also clear and water must have been released into the river as it came up a half a metre from Wednesday night to Thursday afternoon. It was also full of leaves and sticks which came through all day.
So despite fishing 4 swims and trying 2 different feeder approaches and a veritable smorgasboard of hookbaits we managed just one 4lb chub between us. Still nice to be on the bank though ;o)

Two of us spent a pleasant day trotting maggot. Lots of small grayling 3 to 4 inch size. Seven good grayling ranging from 3/4 pound up to 2 pounds. Came across several salmon redds but no salmon seen.

Just there from 9.30 to 12.00. All caught at pool above the road bridge. (Once the swimmers had got cold and left said pool).

Here it is, December! Checked temperature at the bank, read 5.5 degrees, oh dear. Slim chance of Barbel in falling water temp. So targeted chub on the bread on lighter tackle. Had good day with a good stamp of Chub, biggest going 5-9. Blustery day but plenty sunshine and my mate didn't fall in this time.

There was a small armada of canoes going in at Boughrood bridge on arrival at 11.15. To be fair though I don’t think they were the cause of an unusually very quiet session throughout the beat. A few fish, probably trout, were on and off, but a blank today.

Gauge up and down last two days. Despite more water the river was running clear at 1'5".
Two anglers worked the water with nymphs down from the island to below the bridge. Not much moving. The gravel catch much the same. Arrived at Mill stream quite late in the day where a trout and grayling were hooked on pink shrimp. Last half hour from rectory downstream to end of beat - one or two knocks in the run below rectory pool.

Another lovely day on my favourite little beat. The weather gods shone on me as this was the warmest day for weeks. No rising fish but a constant stream of takes from smallish grayling of around the 9 to 12 inch mark.
