First time fishing this stretch of the Wye. Weather was overcast and the river was largely clear.
Our aim was for Grayling so we parked upstream of the bridge in the field near the rock pool, but finding canoeists already there we relocated downstream towards the fishing hut. By the time we'd got to the hut and tackled up the canoe team had drifted downstream and where still in front of us, so a quick walk downstream to the Rectory Pool/Rectory Pot section. I hadn't realised just how deep this section would be and trotting through the swim close in at 11ft depth I still wasn't dragging bottom (Waders beware.) We didn't manage to locate the grayling today but still caught 6 perfect trout on trotted maggot that were unhooked and released straight from the net. 4 small dace completed the day for us. One other note, as the canoeists drifted further downstream through the rectory pot they acknowledged us, kept well out of our way on the far bank and were very polite - no issues for us today. Great water WAU we'll definitely be back for more.

A lot of leaves, literally millions over two days, made fishing difficult. Very disappointed to find the first two swims downstream of the church had fallen trees which rendered them unfishable. Given these swims have the deeper, steadier flow they are very different from the rest of the stretch and it would have been nice to be able to access them. The trees had clearly been in the water some time.

River at 0.38 falling on the Peterchurch gauge. Overcast with a gusty wind. Fished a ptn below a klinkhammer through the whole beat, except for the deep pools where I resorted to a single heavy nymph, without success.
1 grayling at 11 inches, 2 trout at 6 and 8 inches. All caught on the ptn, didn't see a single fish rise.
Did bounce another couple of fish.

River still fining down from high levels of previous week, so good height and colour. Strong winds overnight meant a lot of leaves in the river compared to day before.
Bites very difficult to come by in field below wood. Rang the changes with maggots, pellets and meat in each swim. Quick check of the beats catch reports on this website convinced me to sit it out below woodland and it paid off. Bites came in last two hours, mainly to meat. At about 8lbs, my biggest barbel for a few years too. Even caught a swimfeeder to replace the one I lost to a snag today!

Great afternoon fishing on this lovely stretch at The Creel on the Wye. Weather was good, 14c with sunny spells albeit with the odd shower. 6 chub with 5 between 3 to 5 lb and 2 barbel. Also, lost a barbel and 2 Chub. Mostly to pellet.
