The river was still a bit high for the fly, with a foot of water over the planks throughout the beat. Even so, I was surprised to not have a single offer in four hours fishing, using a variety of conventionally presented, and high sticked nymphs. A leaf or two every other cast didn’t help but a very quiet day today.

No fish or even any bites.

Banks very steep and slippery, making it extremely difficult to cast. It felt dangerous accessing the water in any of the swims I fished. Even a long handled landing net was unable to satisfactorily reach the water safely, so we concluded that even if we were to catch, we'd be unable to safely land the fish.

Rather disappointed.

Finished early as unable to locate a comfortable swim.

Birthday on the irfon but it seems the grayling didn't want to come to the party, the trout did and they weren't even invited ! Nor were the 50 billion leaves in the water. This beat must rank as one of prettiest most diverse and easiest to fish of all the ones in the passport and I always enjoy being here. Fished nymphs again all day ( still no sign of fish rising) grayling and trout to 13" and 5 parr.

Great days fishing at middle hill court. First of all I’d like to thank Stefan the bailiff for lots of great advice with swim choice. We managed 5 barbel to 7lb and 10 chub to 5lb 5oz all fish court on feeder & pellet fishing close in in a deep gulley. Swims were nice and easy to get down to. Stefan as done a amazing job with the swims. Will be back soon for sure

A very pleasant four hours on the Wye with the Ross gauge showing c.0.8m on a falling river, and with improving water clarity. I had only four distinct bites, with three barbel caught and another lost to a hook pull. Pellet and meat were both successful.

A very difficult day on a cold and low (dropping) river. Thought we would struggle for a barbel but even the big chub had no interest in feeding today despite catching many here previously. Trotting produced plenty to about a pound with the largest one falling to leger tactics at dusk (about 3lb). That was the only one above a pound between 2 anglers.

A lovely beat but suffering with low water levels despite the gauge at 0.553. Water running clear in shallows and tinged at knee height. The grayling were hard to find but I had success in slower deeper water.
Weather conditions were gusting wind with intermittent drizzle. I used the tried and trusted "British Nymph" rig: a 4# 10ft rod & line and 2 nymphs under a bung. A Jonathan Barnes weighted Polyphaetis Nymph was preferred by the 5 grayling that gave themselves up to the net.

5 Grayling
