2nd time on this beat ( water very dirty and high last time ) conditions perfect this time all be it the water was incredibly clear ! I could see the bottom everywhere which helped , but it was often deceptively deep when I stepped in! . Very challenging stretch of water and I really had to work hard to catch. Fished nymphs all day ( never saw anything rise ) grayling 13-14" and trout 12" all grayling caught on purple PTN.

A tough day for me today with only 1 Barbel and 10 chub.
DH from Taunton did much better with 4 Barbel and 6 chub, all fish caught with luncheon meat.

A fantastic new beat on the upper Irfon. The river here has a wide variety of pool types and has good parking and access throughout. Between 3 anglers (using mixture of fly & trotting) we caught plenty of grayling averaging about a pound, a couple around 2lb and a beauty at 2lb 4oz (47cm). Plenty of salmon spotted and some good trout. There is much potential here. Look out for a 'Fishing In Wales' promotional film shot on this beat soon.

River was falling, and still losing colour, under a largely overcast sky, with temperatures rising from 3 deg C at 8am

Tried four swims, and whilst the chub were feeding, no sign of barbel.

All fish caught on meat on near side.

I really do wonder what will become of the Wye unless these poultry farms fully commit to reducing the pollutants from their operations. Hopefully Avara Foods and that fertiliser company will live up to their promises

Always nice to be on this River, a lot more sunshine than the forecast suggested. Mr Barbel was not in residence today but Mr Chevin more than made up for that, all fish bar 1 came from the last swim on the l/h side, including a new P.B at 5lb 2oz, all fish caught on feeder fished pellet tactics from this fast flowing & shallow stretch.

River was clear & a couple of feet up & pushing through at quite a pace.
