Had to flick all the way through my "Big Book of Blank Excuses" for this one... Couldn't really find a good one to use but was tempted to claim a VERY localised hailstorm in the Foy area, causing all the fish to swim downstream to The Creel to excuse my horrendous angling.
River was up and steady, weather was spot on, had all the pegs to myself and despite having more pellets than Sun Valley Chickens I could not get a bite.
Tried 3 swims, different methods, different baits to no avail, my blank being saved by a 1 pound chub last knocking who obviously felt sorry for me.

A lovely stretch of river but so difficult to get to the swims. A bit dodgey for a couple of septuagenarians. Again plenty of chub but difficult to find the barbel.

First time on this stretch of the Wye, what a fantastic beat. Walked the entire bank and fished the croy at the top of the beat first, 2 barbel largest 8lb 8oz. Fished several of the main swims picked up three more barbel all around 6lb. Feeder with pellet or meat accounted for all the fish. Two chub and a lost barbel in the second to last swim near the parking lay-by ended a great day.

Returning to the beat after some 20 years and still as beautiful on a sunny October day with river clear and quite full. Fished dries only and had half a dozen really top quality grayling - best a super 2.5lb. Also bonus out of season trout (2 of which a pound each).

Still spinning water today unfortunately, and not apparently dropping at all although possibly clearing very slightly during the day. Fished with an intermediate line, sinking leader and a variety of showy flies. One good fish showed in the middle of Maddox at around half two, otherwise uneventful.
