After downpour in the morning decided to start fishing at c15.00 (and finished at 20.00). The rain had made the banks treacherous. Getting to riverside being the issue. Having fallen twice safest option was to go down slope on backside.
Fished halfway along beat. in swim with large white stone on inside edge. swim had the oxygenated water and depth on the nearside, so no need to fish any further out than a couple of rod lengths.
First fish was a 2lb chub on sweetcorn, shortly followed by an eel that was perhaps slightly bigger and took a fancy to garlic meat. A change to paprika meat saw first barbel of about 8lb. not a bad start for first couple of hours.
At about 17.30 a switch to double 8mm halibut pellet started the barbel action with one of about 1lb. Constant taps and drop back bites resulted in further barbel of 7lb and 2 over 9lb, with a further 4 barbel lost to a variety of hook pulls and breaks - to both 8lb hook lengths and also 20lb braid mainline. The barbel were interspersed with a couple of 3lb chub. Bites were still coming when packed up at 8pm.
On packing up, the banks had dried out quite a bit, but still very tricky, so ended up trying to find a way through nettles etc, where it wasn't as slippy.

We fished the lower pool next to the hut along with two club anglers. They'd landed three by midnight but we still hadn't had any luck. My son switched to a double setup with an intermediate tip and was rewarded on his second cast by a lovely silver 5-6lb hen who put up a good fight.

We carried on fishing but stopped when my son hooked the second of two bats. The first one was killed on the forward cast which was upsetting. The second one, about 30 mins later was badly injured and my son managed to hook himself and get bitten by the bat when he tried to unhook it. We decided to stop as we didn't want to hook any more bats as there were a lot of them flying around us.

The next day was largely taken up by a visit to A&E organising rabies vaccinations for my son.

In the description is mentions 1.5 miles of River, however a lot of the river is behind barbed wire fences and most of the banks are over grown making access very difficult - once you eventually find an entry point to the river you then have a few 100 yards of fishing before having to exit eithe due to silt or too deep to wade or both, exit through the undergrowth to find another entry point. This beat is so neglected and might better fished in the Winter or after and "agent orange" raid - we did manage to catch a few graying, not tront caught or seen. Did not fish the upper part through the woods as I left my machette at home - not sure I will be back. 8 Grayling caught mostly on PTN's

My 1st time fishing on the Edw and 1st time wild stream fishing. I loved it, its a cracking river and I will be back to do it again. I caught 3 wee browns all on Adams para dry at the heads of pools in the ruffled bit. Also missed a couple of very quick sub surface nymph takes.
The water was low and very clear and I must have frightened dozens of fish which I saw scappering off in all directions.
I saw maybe half a dozen feeding fish in total and I think if the water was a foot higher and pushing through a bit quicker I might have caught more. A very enjoyable few hours.
