After a bit if leg work a number of barbel could be seen feeding in a shallow pool and once located the action was steady right through the day. Fish fell to ledgered pellet mainly but it was lovely to get out in the water in the sun and roll meat through the pool which also produced a few fish. Biggest barbel went 9lb 2oz. As others have mentioned you need to be fit and mobile for this beat and make sure you travel light but take what you need as you don't want to be popping back to the car for anything if you can help it!!

River was very low but it made rock-hopping all the more easier! Four lovely trout all caught on very small dry flies (we were actually after grayling!) the largest of which was a 2 lb beauty. All caught in the fast water outflowing from some of the salmon pools. A small 6 inch salmon parr also caught on a fly. On leaving the beat, what looked like a submarine creating a huge bow wave, travelled up from the pool just above the weir. We thought it may have been an otter but in fact it was a very large salmon heading upstream!

Fairly steady action from the area below the woods. Best barbel was just over 10lb and the best Chub was 4.5 lb. All fish fell to pellet and hemp feeder tactics. Lost a couple of barbel too and a pike took a liking to my feeders on the retrieve - on 3 occasions - hungry girl!

Had a short evening session here after travelling down from Yorkshire. River is lower than we've seen it and the lack of weed and look of the river isnt good. We put some bait in and left it for a while then 2 fished the float while 1 fished pellet and bomb. All 3 of us had a barbel and they were all a good size.
Look forward to returning soon

Area:Usk - Wild Stream
Beat:Danygraig - River Crai
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
First look at this beat - mainly the section downstream of the bridge, where I found one decent pool, containing some large but uncooperative trout, and otherwise rather skinny water, at least in the present drought conditions. A fall of spinners towards evening brought some activity only from par. Like other beats this one is desperately in need of a flush out and a bit of a prune. The algae makes even the shallow wading treacherously slippery.
