Chose to fish above High Force. Parked at Forest-in-teesdale, just a short walk-in to the river. Bright sunshine but a tricky downstream wind. Definitely needed my 4 wt, and should have shortened my leader too. Most a the river was pretty wide, shallow and bouldered, with no trout action. Found only one pool with deeper water and that provided all the action for the day. Rose 15 fish to my dryfly (griffith gnat), hooked and lost two, netted 7 trout. Largest was 11 inches. Very dark colouring. 3 fought really well, 2 going aerial several times. 1 took off upstream strongly.
Great day out.

River critically low especially from accessible swims, fished all morning without a single bite on all baits and methods, so gave up and went home. Word of caution this beat with the river so low has limited safe accessibilty especially for septuagenarians !!

Lovely beat , challenging fishing in low conditions . Two trout caught on dries , lost a better one . Highlight was watching two otters playing in the bottom pool . I Chased off three poachers with spinning gear !

River condition was low , and a very bright day so not the best fishing conditions , have to say we were disappointed how very few swims there are on Thomas wood stretch making it very hard work for 4 anglers on the beat

First time on this venue and a lovely spot on such a warm and sunny day. Not good weather for fishing though. Fished the afternoon and into the evening with not even a tug on the spinner. No signs of any activity on the surface either. All very quiet. Look forward to trying again in better conditions.

4 of us fished today (Monday 20th September)
Chub caught on a variety of baits, mostly ledgered meat. Nothing bigger than around the 3lb mark but plenty of “small pups”! 1 barbel caught on a piece of 10mm punched meatmeant for chub, nice pristine fish of 9.5lbs.
Lovely venue, easy access, will be back later in year. Thankyou WUF.
