I had been pondering the fish I was playing with last week on this beat, so decided to try and find it again… and that I did! Conditions largely the same although slightly more cloud cover, fish held up in the same deep spot, with sporadic lively rises, patience, and perseverance paid off. Caught on a grey duster. Good 1lbs + Brownie ~14inch. Quick picture before I sent it back on its way.

River very low, plenty of fish rising as Mayfly stated hatching. Missed and lost a few unfortunately left most dry flies at home in my other bag.

Warm day, cloudy with sunny intervals, slight upstream north easterly wind. A nice day on the dry flies at Skenfrith, didn't fish much of the beat as I found fish rising in a short stretch for the best part of the day. Lots of fly life on the water including, dragonflies and damsels. At around 6pm there was a hatch of mayfly, which really brought the fish on to feed.

I seem to be having problems converting dry fly takes into fish in the net this year, I missed/lost far more than I caught.

Tough conditions. Wye as low as we've ever known, bright sunshine. And due to having to decamp from the Dee in the morning and set up camp here, we didn't wet a line until 1.09 pm. Still winkled out a few fish. One 3lb chub, 25 odd trout (a couple over 1lb) and one 1lb plus grayling. 90% came to an olive but a few to the nymph when we couldn't find anything rising. All returned safely.

25 Trout, 1 Grayling, 1 Chub
