Fished Beat 2. River so low you could wade across! Difficult to find anywhere deep enough to fish with any confidence of getting a bite. After a long walk I returned to the area around the island and fished the small channel behind the island. Had 2 Chub in quick succession. Both 3 to 4 pounders. Then went quite so only fished a couple of hours in the morning.

Water very low and quiet. All rises were worth pursuing and seemed more vigorous towards the later afternoon. 1 trout on a spider.

Started at the very far end of the western side, fished back down but couldn't find any fish. Then about 1/2 way down saw some movement and managed to land 4 very well conditioned rainbows and lost 3. The fish were taking very agressively and in fact snapped my fry imitation pattern in half. Caught others on an orange booby and orange damsel. Fantastic fishing. Floating line, jerky retrieve.

Hot day; fish rising and feeding on surface but both anglers failed to encourage any fish to rise to an artificial fly

Lovely day, river conditions were good. Water level was fine, and water temperature not too hot. however we caught no fish, though a good size chub followed a 'yellow daddy' that I was fishing with, for some yards, it didn't take.
The river looked in good condition with plenty of 'spricks' minnows, and tiny trout, the water was clear, and there was a low key insect hatch just before sunset. Both kingfishers and dippers were about.
