Lovely couple of hours in the evening. Few trout to hand on Dry Fly. Beautiful views of the Rhinogau and the sunset. Special place

Gorgeous sunny day, but water still high and coloured. A couple of fish seen moving, although they might have been Twaite Shad - not that I caught any of those either! I did catch a nice sea trout though, which was scant consolation for the lack of salmon.

A challenging day of fishing, offset by the glorious sunshine. This was our second visit to the beat having had no luck back in April with super low water and blazing sunshine. This time round we had too much water (1.2m at Redbrook), heavily coloured and again blazing sunshine!!
Despite our best efforts we did not touch a salmon (nor saw any for that matter). Based off the positive catch reports further up river, our guess was that the fish were simply moving through and any residents were sitting tight in the poor visibility.
I did take a rather nice 1lb brown trout who rather ambitiously took a large tube fly!
I still think this is a great stretch of water and will be giving it one more try when the conditions improve.

5 wild brownies catch and release, before lunch, 3 for my husband, 2 for me. Caught about half way up the reservoir, no luck at the further end near the weeds after lunch. Very windy , bright and sunny.

Camped next to river Honddu at 'treats'. A family outing so not really a dedicated fishing trip. Fished for about 2 hours, landed 5 with a few lost, best about 14oz. Some nice deep pools here but the best ones are at the campsite and are disturbed constantly by dogs, swimmers etc.

Due to sunny weather the river was entirely taken up with people, their dogs and their children running in and out of the water, swimming and throwing stones. If it’s sunny do not book.
WUF note: This is advice that is worth considering, especially when thinking of booking beats that are close to towns in hot weather and at weekends. With foreign holidays again mostly off the cards this summer, we expect the levels of unwanted intrusion on riverbanks to be high. Please be aware of this when you are thinking of booking, especially in July and August.
