Please post this anonymously as usual. Tis was my first proper days fishing since autumn 2019.
Chris Ryan was my guest and he caught 3 fish. we saw lots of salmon showing.
I was fishing with a small Willie Gun tube fly.
Caught 4 salmon 12, 27, 8, 23 lb
The 27 lb fish was a cock fish measuring 105 cms in length.
The 23lb fish was a very deep hen fish with colossal strength, taking me round a rock, racing upstream 40 meters and jumping, then racing downstream , out of the Cafn pool, leaving me scrambling over rocks, simultaneously lifting my rod point over riverside bushes and finally persuading it to swim into a tiny piece of quiet water to release it. The most technical battle with a salmon in 57 years salmon fishing!

River level down to 0.66 on Cilmery gauge and running clearer. Conditions and weather were very good but I still struggled to catch. All caught on weighted nymphs. No surface activity.

An absolutely stunning day - river looked in prime condition dropping back down, plenty clear, hatches galore, dappled shade to aim at, bushes giving my fly back unscathed... but no sign of any fish whatsoever!!

Didn’t see a single rise from 10am-1pm when I bumped into a terribly helpful and insightful fellow angler, who assured me the river is in fact teeming with fish ???????????? (he’ll probably post a Cath report of 23 fish despite fishing behind me!)

New to the wild streams, I absorbed as many tips as I could: 12ft leader, 3lb max tippet, degreased, look for flatter water etc etc. Carried on my way thinking he must have been pulling my leg about the number of fish, before seeing a rise almost immediately! Unfortunately even the new rig didn’t work and saw no more fish. Could be the fact I was wearing a blue shirt

Nonetheless a wonderful day ????
